Ball down from Lights out
« on: November 11, 2013, 09:12:50 PM »
What ball in Storm's current line up will be a good ball to transition to once the Lights Out starts checking up? I thought the IQ tour pearl would've been an option since it has a pearlized version of the same cover that's on the Lights Out, but with a weaker core. But everything I've read says the IQ tour pearl is stronger than the Lights Out.

My shout was strong for a game or two....there is separation from my wrecker to my shout.  The two do their job well...
Bill, were you suggesting a shout or a scream? I haven't thrown the shout but my scream (pink/green) is still pretty snappy on dry lanes. Either is definitely a ball down from a wrecker but for me not wanting to have a huge arsenal, I wanted a bigger step down than my Trop Heat to my scream. I usually end up going to a storm natural when hand changes and lane moves are exhausted with my heat.

IQTP labors or burns up because the diff is so low. Again, for me, this ball is much better as the track opens up and the lane is blended after the initial transition. My low pin, low hole, 3000 abralon Lights Out is a far superior option on oil and the fresh. As a matter of fact, on house, these are the only two balls I've been using.

I understand not everyone may see it this way.

To Bill's point, I had a Tropical heat hybrid Black/silver which is a very similar ball to the lights out. I bought a scream as a step down ball and found that even this ball is quite a bit stronger than they market it for. It is certainly not as strong as your lights out but I don't think it will be the separation you are looking for, at least not from my experience with it.

The Tropical Heat series had the same cover as the Breeze series with the same core as the Lights Out, correct?

And then they charge 20-30 bucks more because of the cover change. Got to love that!

I use a rico drilled Roto Grip Grenade under my Lights Out.  I'm probably going to be getting a Super Natural to take the place of the Grenade very soon.

I agree, both are great house shot balls for everything but the most burned lanes. For my local house, they hardly put down a "medium-dry" shot when it is fresh, so when they are burned up on second shift, both of these two balls would be too much and thus why I usually go to my Natural. I guess it depends on what Blueprint's fresh shot is like and what he is looking to have a ball for.

I do throw mostly Storm and Roto Grip. I have 1 non Storm ball in my arsenal a Brunswick  Strike King and this ball follows my Lights Out very well.

I just picked up a C300 Freeze and a Storm Super Natural today!  The Freeze is very strong, as strong if not more angular than my Lights Out.  the Super Natural, all I can say is I love this ball!  It is so even rolling, rolls nice and long with a nice strong Arc. So controllable, and a very nice step down from my LO.
