Diablo and Ragin' Review
« on: August 10, 2005, 04:24:27 PM »
First I just want to say that I LOVE the REACTOR coverstock and these two balls just made me love it even more. I was a little scared when I saw the Ragin and it was so shiny, because I thought here is another Banshee (the first one) which never budged in oil and went side ways when it hit dry. Much to my surprise the Ragin' is awesome as is the Diablo.

My PAP is 4 3/4 up 3/16. I layed both balls out the same. Pin 4 inches from my PAP and the CG 4 1/4. This is a similar layout two my Fired Up and Screamin'. Those two balls are my primary balls in my arsenal.

I bowled on the fresh house shot. Our center oils 35 feet buff to 42 feet. Our lanes would be considered Medium to Heavier oil. Many of our better house bowlers all throw aggressive equipment between 5 and 10.

When throwing the Diablo, I figured it would hook, and that it did, but not at my toe thank god. I had Bill stand out on the caps and mark the balls transition from skid to roll and roll to hook. Bill became the human version of the C.A.T.S. system. The ball skidded to about 35 ft. then would square up (as I call it) and then flip left at about 47 ft. and when it made its move there was no stopping it. I could even miss in to the swamp and the ball still cut threw. I ended up playing 20 in the heads to 7-8 at the breakpoint (40 ft). And this ball along with the Ragin threw pins everywhere.

The Ragin' gave me the same amount of total hook on the fresh as the Diablo, but the ball motion was greatly different. When tracking this ball we found that it would skid to about 42 ft. only roll to about 46 ft. and then make a sharp left turn. I played my feet about 2 boards right of where I was with the Diablo. Generally I leave a lot of ring dimes in my center when I try playing left of 10 but with these two balls I left maybe 2 or 3 in four games I practiced.

I also threw my Fired Up and the Screamin a few shots to see where they fit in. The Screamin was less overall hook then the other threw by about 5 boards but gives me the even control arc that I like on the fresh. The Fired seemed to be a perfect fit between the Diablo and Ragin'. I could play the same part of the lane. The Fired Up would skid to about 37 ft. roll to about 45 ft and then move hard left.

Storm is finally hitting their stride in the mid priced market. These four balls give any bowler a great arsenal. Throw in a Trifecta and you have a great asymmetrical ball to along with these four gems.

Sorry for making this so long but I was so excited that I felt more detail was needed so that all the reviews would not sound the same.

Chris, would you think the Diablo would be a good replacement for the Atomic Charge and the Ragin for the Depth Charge?  Just looking at what to get for this season.

The Diablo wil replace the Atomic Charge. I find the Diablo has a better transition then the Atomic did for me. The Ragin will replace the regular Banshee. Nothing will replace the Depth Charge yet. That core was just different.

Much more hook. About 5 boards at least.

As far as overall hook, did the Ragin have the same amount of boards as the Fired up with a different look, or is the Ragin not as strong.

First, the Ragin' covered maybe one to two boards less then the Fired Up.Ragin had less of a transition.

As for Mr. Gee's question, the last few balls I did not have great success with. Probably me just bowling like crap. But the new covers seem to have helped me. My favorite balls or my go to balls have always been the Eraser Blaze and LRG. With the new stuff I've been able to have new go to balls. Try the Screamin' or Fired Up. Screamin would be close to a Silver Streak solid and the Fired Up would be a good replacement for the Pearl.

I drilled my Diablo last Wednesday and proceeded to throw 14 games with it. I have never struck so much in my life with a ball just drilled out of the box. Used it in league thursday night and struck lots with it. It pushed when it should have and roared back when it had to. I threw it today at the Luci Boneau doubles in Houtson today. Tougher shot(christmas tree) than regular house shot by far. The diablo outhooked any ball I had. Really smooth through the front and when it teetered with the O.B came back where as my other stuff would wiggle. I wouldn't change the cover on it at all. The ragin banshee I need to hit with the pad and take a little shine off. I am going topractice tomorrow with it and get back to ya'll with a few details of what that ball did for me. But the Diablo makes me look good throwing the ball. CJ

Yes, but without a properly matched up ball from his sponsor he'd look like any other PBA pro.
