Tropical Heat Black/Silver

I am getting ready to drill this ball and have an idea of how I would like to drill it. I am looking to get a smooth reaction, I know I will get a good amount of flip off the backend because of the block, but I am hoping to use this in tournaments when the lanes really break down and I need something that gets down the lane very well and does not have too much on the backend. Any suggestions?

Might help if you can tell us a little more about your game. Rev rate? Speed? Axis rotation and tilt? PAP?

For the record, I just punched up the pearlized version of the Tropical Heat, so it's not identical to your solid/pearl hybrid version, but I drilled it for the same basic reason -- I need something that can get through the front part of the lane after the shot's torn up, but still creates enough movement on the backend to carry without making it jumpy or uncontrollable.  I opted for the pearl Tropical Heat since Storm's tech support recommended using it with a 2000 abralon surface to smooth out the reaction and give better traction in sloppy backends.  The hybrid solid/pearl version would probably roll too early with surface!  They recommended a 4" pin to PAP with a 1" pin buffer to create a rolly, but defined motion downlane. I just punched up the ball yesterday, so I haven't gotten to test it on broken down lanes, but I liked the way it handled shots projected into the friction on a fresh pattern when I gave it a quick test last night. I'm a lower-rev guy, about 250rpm actual rev rate (CATS has me at like 350 which is unrealistically high). Moderate axis rotation and tilt, about 15.5-16.5 mph on Qubica scoring systems, so probably like 18mph off my hand. There's a video in my profile for reference.

well ideally, you'd probably want to go with a low flaring drill pattern..  something like putting the Pin @ 2inches and the CG @ about 2inches....

I would get the pearl version (the red one) over the hybrid if you want to tame out the backend... and go with a control drilling and you should get exactly what you are looking for.. The hybrid was snappier off the break for me.. in my bag thats what I needed, but you may want something a bit more controllable!

Mine is drilled 40* x 5-1/2 x 60 which puts the pin in my middle finger.

I really like this ball since it gives me the exact reaction you are looking at on our home lanes...40 year old wood lanes, major top hat block and a bowler who has more hand than speed and not enough talent to make his "B" game work consistently.

Yes, I mentioned it has a 1" pin buffer, so the pin is basically high above the ring finger. CG is about 4.5" away from my PAP, so it's slightly swung in toward grip center compared to the pin. I have had the ball a few days now, but still haven't gotten to try it on broken down conditions. I was on the end pair last night in league and the two lanes were total opposites, and I used the Tropical Heat the first game on the left lane, which was the slicker lane. The surface helped me move left a couple boards and bank it off the dry without it overreacting, and my carry was pretty good. But then I had to move a couple boards deeper and my carry went away because the shot was so wet/dry. But overall, I can tell that with this 2000 surface, the ball won't be skid/flippy. It gets nice length and has a strong but controlled arcing motion. I'm interested to see if it'll work tomorrow night on the goofy craptacular lanes I'll see. We'll be on lanes 1 and 2 on a broken down shot, and those two lanes always play totally different, and they always hook a ton. I know my Natural will be coming with me tomorrow night to league just in case...

FYI: The hybrid TH hooks a lot more than I expected and you probably expect. Not necessarily the best choice for something that gets down the lane very well. If you take the time to look for it, I talked about that in my review of the ball.

A lot of my friends have this ball-many different styles, with a lot of
success.  So I bought one, simple lable drill.  It is somewhat stronger
than I anticipated, but very versatile and have been able to use it on a
lot of different conditions.  I am very happy with my purchase.
