Tropical Heat Solid versus Manic
« on: December 12, 2012, 01:23:47 PM »
A little background.  I create a good amount of ball reaction.  Lots of side roll, decent revs and softer speed.

All of sudden lately I have been using balls like a Sonic X solid and Pearl and an Ascent solid to bowl OK.  As you know most of these balls have diffs of less than .030.  Lanes not so wet and not so long of a shot say acting 35 for awhile.  Lots of over under at the end of the pattern!  The Solids really smoothed it out.  My Sonic Boom Pearl is humungous on this pattern for me and works if I really get the petal to the metal!  Often over under because of the strong acting dry at the end of the pattern.

I have been intrigued with following the differences from the Furious, The Tropical Heat solid(same ball?), the 2 Furious(New core NOS and coverstock R2S), and now the Manic(same ball as 2 Furious but finer grit?)

Liking my new Natural and it's turbine core and roll.  I thought this same core with a reactive might be less of a step up in ball power than a step up to the Manic with it's lower RG core and R2S coverstock

Could some of the Storm experts explain some of the differences they see between the Turbine Core of the Tropical Heat and the NOS core of the Manic.  And the Reacter Solid Coverstock On the Tropical Heat and the R2S Solid on the Manic.

I appreciate your informed and helpful storm advice!

In a nutshell, the Tropical Heat is weaker than the Manic.  The Manic is going to flare more and give you more midlane reaction.

Miller,

Thanks for the info.  A ton of midlane doesn't seem to called for on this shot, so that is good.  Some very moderate is real nice.

I am also real curious,  I hear and read all the raves about the R2S coverstock.  I was a Reactor fan but am curious about the differences?

Is the Reactor more jumpy off dry?.  Is the R2S better at blending?

Frankly I am real fan of the Sure Grip on the Sonic X solid.  It blends the wet dry so nice.  A touch more core, yummy!  Maybe the Tropical Heat Solid is it!?

On the Reactor versus R2S.  Any guidance?

Thanks,

Luckylefty

The R2S coupled with the NOS core is going to be harder off the spot than the Reactor coupled with the turbine core.  Sounds like you need the Tropical Heat.  The Heat solid should blend the pattern nicely for you.

All the rave reviews about R2S are warranted as that cover is special.  That's why they used it on the IQ Tour.  It blends the best but Reactor is no slouch.  I think you will be happy with a Tropical Heat if you do not need a ton of midlane roll.

Miller,

Thanks again, just to clarify, (I get the core comments that is why I chose the Turbine for the higher rg and lower diff).  As I stated I love the roll on Natural Urethane and just want to tweak/strengthen the backend with a reaction strengthening weighthole for my wet/dry shot. ie probably a Mo Pinel 2.5 or 3.

On the RS2 versus the Reactor.  The Reactor responds stronger to dry versus the R2S?  Or said another way the R2S solid responds smoother or slightly slower?

Please give your insignt as you seem to have a lot of knowledge on this subject.
of these wonderful storm coverstocks.  I have very fond memories of my Hot Rod Super Sport Pearl with Reactor Pearl(I always felt it was a hybrid looking less pearly than other pearls).  My Son is loving it now and tearing it up with the redrilled version now righty.

My comments on that ball, were..."It almost doesn't recognize carrydown".  Nice stuff, I have never used either of the Solids, Reactor or R2S.  Though I saw the Reactor solid on the Hot Rod Super Sport Solid and thought it was quite jumpy!

Guide me a little bit.....please.

Regards,

Luckylefty

Both R2S and Reactor respond strongly to friction.  R2S responds stronger.  I throw a Tropical Heat Black/Purple Hybrid and the Heat Solid (both Reactor covers) along with a Victory Road Solid and Frantic (both R2S covers).  My Victory Road solid reads friction harder than my Heat solid.  Both have very similar layouts.  The VR Solid picks up in the midlane much sooner as well but the core helps that along.  My Frantic is stronger midlane as well as stronger backend than the Heat Solid with a similar layout.  Reactor is cleaner through the heads and later midlane with a strong response to friction while the R2S is more midlane and a little more backend.  Basically, more overall motion.  If you like Reactor and want more backend, go with a Heat Black/Purple Hybrid.  Carrydown will not be an issue with either R2S or Reactor.

Miller,

I can't thank you enough.  This house seems to require very little but some midlane.

It sounds like I am on the right track in trying to go slightly up from my Sonic X solid!  With the Turbine core versus the NOS core being a smaller step up.

It is amazing how much smoother solids react in this house than pearls and hybrids which act as if they are touching sandpaper once friction is found.  From what I seeing by swithching from my explosive in this house Sonic X pearl to smooth Sonic X solid.

I appreciate all your informative comments!

Luckylefty

You're welcome.  Sounds like the Heat solid is what you need.  Another option would be the AMF Cobra SE.  It's a low differential solid that might work well on your house shot.  You might want to research that ball a little bit before you make up your mind.  I haven't thrown one but it intrigues me.  It's supposed to smooth out any over/under you encounter.

Miller, the AMF Cobra  has caught my interest a little bit also.

I am concerned about it's highly reactive cover, I have a 900 Global Favorite which has a coverstock rating of 57 but also a low RG rating of 2.480.

I have found it (or me) to be very inconsistent, I can't figure out if it is the stronger coverstock or the too low RG for this shot for me.

My Sonic X looks so smooth and predictable.  I just want a touch stronger!  Hence the Tropical Heat solid.

I must say I have been thoroughly impressed by the Heat Solid.  I have the indigo/violet and it is absolutely great.  Very smooth and clean, very predictable, and stronger than I had imagined.  Can't go wrong with it.

I know it is.  I got mine on closeout from Buddies about 8 months ago for 60bucks.  Shot 790 with it last week.  I didn't know there wasn't a new heat solid yet, only the hybrid and pearl correct?

I believe there are several internet pro shops still with it on closeout and they can be found on Ebay also.

I don't have mine yet(shipping) and I don't have a 790 with it or without it!  But I am willing to have both!

I've seen a few on ebay.  86 shipped.  Not too bad.  I drilled it to be more lenght but controlled, pin in my ring finger.  Have been extremely surprised by how well it digs in midlane and really good continuation.  When my VG starts to jump too early, I ball down to it and it matches up real well.  I haven't matched up well with many solids.  Nano and Invasion were nightmares and were just too much.  VG and the Heat are the only 2 solids I own.    Would have shot the 800 but left an almost church in the 9th of game 3.  299(7pin), 279 (10pin in the 8th), 212.  There's always next week.  Best of luck with it when you get it and get to throw it.  Let us know how it rolls!

Thanks and sweet bowling.

I have the Natural same Turbine core)and one can reallly see the motion of the core with those weak coverstocks, I love motion.

On yours Storm22, pin in ring and then stacked straight down?  Close to the drilling I had envisioned.
