Tropical Storm
« on: January 03, 2009, 02:16:54 AM »
I got my Tropical, the only Storm I've ever had,for dry lanes and it hooks a LOT.I do like it.It hits hard. But if I force it at all(which I do sometimes)it turns left at the end of any amount of oil I've rolled it on or skids through the break point. So it has taught me to keep the arm swing free and not to force anything.Just trust it.Am thinking about getting another Storm due to the fact that all my(Ebonite)equipment is over 2 yrs.old.But not too sure which one.I don't bowl any leagues or tournaments where there would be heavy oil,so nothing dull will be necessary.I like the lightbulb shaped cores and know there are a few balls on the market with them.Any suggestions?

Tropical is a very fine and under rated piece.  I too, a few years back, bought one as my "dry lane piece" and it ended up being the first ball out of the bag on most nights.  Not a hooking monster, but just right for those house shot mediums.

I have a Storm Hyroad, which is a mid range piece and I like it a lot.  I took the polish off of mine, but even with the polish on, and the pin below my ring finger, the ball was pretty smooth.

The Street Rod Solid and Street Rod Pearl have a lightbulb core with a flip cap.  They use a variation on the same Reactor coverstock as your Tropical Storm, but with the stronger core they are stronger and more versatile.  I'd say the solid is good for medium conditions and the pearl for medium to medium-light.

If you want something even stronger, it just depends on what you are looking for.  Could you be more specific about what kind of reaction you want and what part of the lane you are looking to play?

Couldn't agree more. I was surprised how strong this ball is. Right now, it's the strongest in the regular bag!
A friend of mine who's Storm staff said that too.

I was thinking of getting one of these and putting as tame of a drilling as I can get. My question is I cant even play up the boards with my faball nail, red pearl hammer(faball) or my xxxl so my question is is there a way I could get this ball to play straight up the boards for me? I tend to play gutter out with everything I own and I even roll my urethanes from left of 20. I have very little ball speed and turn the ball pretty well is there anyway to get this ball weaker than what I have or another option for my game? I feel this is the biggest thing missing from my game and it is truely a battle for me when the lanes are light oil, walled up or start breaking down and I feel if I could straighten up it would help me more than anything.

If you can't get plastic to go straight, a weak-core-but-strong-cover resin ball isn't going to do it either.  Have you considered working with a coach to improve your ball speed?  That sounds like your biggest obstacle.

I have my issue is Im doing everything to create ball speed(quick feet, and I do have an abnormally high backswing also I didnt know if it was the drilling on the xxxl or what even coming up the back I cant keep it very straight. Mainly I guess Im asking if I cant get a ball to help with my issue what can I do to fix it as Ive even tried to really muscle it down and push it down the lane and this gets me to a similar ball speed that the average person rolls at. Think of my style as that of a female bowler with the amount of hand of a tweener or so balls go gutter to gutter and still struggle to stay right. my heavy oil balls are my gravity shift and my purple rhino pro, for instance on the shark with my gravity shift I can turn the ball from 25 to 15 and still get back and carry the pocket.
