Ball under my gravity shift.
« on: August 20, 2008, 02:39:52 AM »
Im looking for something just under my gravity shift.  As of right now, its my world class particle.  I don’t tend to get a chance to use it much, it either hooks early or doesn’t make the turn for me as of late.  I don’t really want to replace it all together, but for league & typical tourneys, I need something that hooks a little less than my Gravity, but still has enough of a turn to get up.

My 2 choices right now…..after VERY little looking, are the spit fire(cheap on ebay right now) & the rapid fire pearl.

Then again, there is always another gravity shift with a weaker drill, or a somewhat similar drill at 4000+polish.

Anyone have any suggestions/comments?

Shawn

right now my arsenal looks like this
Dimension ( 4.5 x 3.5 Below fingers)
T Road Solid( 5 x 3 Above fingers)
Gravity Shift ( 4 x 5 Pin next to fingers)
Rapid Fire Pearl ( 4 x 5  Pin under ring )
Street Rod Pearl ( 2 x 4 pin near axis ) ( Control)

Rapid fire pearl works well, this drill iv selected give it an earlier roll to keep the back end some what tame. Most people will Describe this ball As ( Sideways ) down lane.

You could look at a spit fire aswell, although the reactor cover the spit fire is comprised of is cleaner though the front part of the lane then the rapid fire's R2s. You can ever consider the Rapid fire solid.

For me my gravity is a control ball, the low RG core ( 2.48 ) lets the ball have excellent mid lane read, but however a controllable back end reaction. My Rapid fire pearl, is cleaner through the front part of the lane due to the higher Rg core (2.57) but also hooks much more in the backend.

Any questions just Pm.

The spit fire would be excellent for the spot, and IMO it would be more usable than the Rapid Fire Pearl because from what i've seen that ball gets squirty on carrydown and even with a mild pin down layout is just too flippy for most scenarios.

I'd honestly just get another Gravity Shift with a weaker drill and/or more polish.  The Gravity is gold man.

If not, I use my Pyro at this point.  I have a bit of a lengthier drill on my Pyro vs. my Gravity, and it works like a charm.  I know it's pearl particle, but the small pin-up drill = clutch.

I agree with the others that you should pick up a T-Raod Pearl.  My Gravity Shift is always the first ball out of my bag, but when the lanes started to break down a little last weekend I pull out the T-Road Pearl and used it for the first time on anything besides fresh lanes.  All I can say is wow!  It hits like a truck... I am a new bowler and I beat my top score, rolling a 214 with the T-Road Pearl.

I purchased the Rapid Fire Pearl to go just under my gravity shift and it hasn't gone quite as planned because of how flippy the rfp is.  I love both balls and averaged extremely well over the summer throwing both.

The rfp can hook almost as much as my gravity when it hits the dry.  I actually started pulling my rfp out first on the fresh shot and then switched to the gravity one the carry down happened.  I (like you) thought about the spit fire and picked one up cheap on ebay ($50) and am waiting to get it drilled this weekend.

Good luck.  After reading about the T-Pearl I wish I would have asked this question before I bought my rfp.
