Title: Ultra Hot as a Control Ball?????

I have recently changed to a high rev release and am having tremendous problems controling my breakpoint. I have been useing a Pearl Elixir with pin over ring finger and the cg kicked out and a Rhino fxi (think Scream/R with a solid powerkoil 17 cover) with the pin above middle finger and cg in span. I've actually shot my best scores with a Storm Football after they dry out a little. What I need is a relatively small overall amount of hook and a more urethane type look on the lanes.
I was considering an Ultra hot with the cg in span and the pin at ring finger height about 2 inches from pap. Will this ball jump too hard off of the dry or is this a good choice? I'm high rev rate, high track, medium speed.

I know those balls have lower hook potentials but I thought they were more skid/flip. I want something with a nice controllable arc at the backend. I'm getting a very abrupt breakpoint right now. I need to smooth it out. It's not amount of hook that is the issue. I'm covering too many boards in the last 10 feet of the lane. I need a ball that is smooooooth.

I have a lightly polished Ultra Hot that I use when my X-Factor Deuce becomes uncontrollable (to me, at least.)  I've shot some monster scores throwing it hard straight up the second arrow, and it gently arcs in and smashes the pocket.  Doesn't react too violently to changing lane conditions.  I definitely consider this my control ball.

We have a slower speed lefty around here who just picked up a Ultra Hot.

Drilled typical 4 X 5 she is displaying quite a pop at the back.

Some others around here used this as their number one ball on most mediums!
Especially softer speed bowlers.

I am seeing quite a few bowlers around here that were getting a lot of pop out of their Wilds(or Tornado even sligtly stronger IMHO) have added the Sonix X to their arsenal.

Like most balls with a wide middle to the weightblock this ball hooks in the midlane and then seems to walk hard in to the pocket!

I think you will find the Pearl sonic a nice little piece for your now heavy handed attack!

PS I just picked up a Walter Ray that is quite similar to the above sonic to my eye but earlier!  If I didn't state it clearly I think the Ultra has a pretty good little power move at the back!

I do!  Unless you think you need the solid cover stock.

If so then you can drill out the slightly flippy backend.

One way is your way the other way is weaker pin and kick out cg and hole on pap.
Don't kick out far!

ALso there is a solid Sonic X out now!

PS I think the Ultra Hot is an Ultra Hot little honey!  Nice almost flippy backend for a solid.  Sonic X just rolls a little more on backend after a strong even midlane!  Saw a bowler trying to fit to the shot today(righty) and he left a bunch of 7 pins.  Good sign of a nice midlane slightly softer backend ball on too much condition!

The last Storm ball I owned (a while back) was the Ultra Hot. It is a fine control ball, although the higher RG might make the length a bit undesirable if you're looking for a controlled backend. Of course, putting the pin that far over might do the trick. Most of the "Good" Hi-Rev players that I've seen who are Stormers tend to go to the Tour Power when they need the reaction you're looking for. Have you tried that?

I haven't tried the tour power. I'm a little concerned that the cover on the Tour Power is stroger than what I'm looking for. I would really like something with a strong core and weak cover, but I know of no available balls that fit that description. The ball doesn't have to be Storm. I chose an Ultra Hot simply because of the weaker core and coverstock and also because they can be had cheaply right now.

I just read your profile - put your thumb back in the ball
That should control the backend. Or better yet, just pick up a urethane ball if you want a urethane type of reaction.

I'll probably eventually put my thumb back in the ball, but for now I'm enjoying myself too much. It's fun watching the ball make a u-turn. Not high scoring but fun.

You might consider the RotoGrip sonix x solid, Columbia beast solid, or the new spirit 2 for control balls.  My suggestion would be the beast.  Mild solid shell, low differential, and a lightbulb weightblock.
