NEW BALLS!!! (semi-repost from other thread)
« on: December 27, 2007, 06:07:16 AM »
Just so everybody can easily find the new balls:

Gravity Shift = new core (Shape Lock HD) with a new pearl cover (R2X). Color is cherry, silver, violet.
Rapid Fire = Fire line core (ON EDIT: NOT INVERTED!!!) with a solid R2S cover. Color is purple, saphire blue.

All this info is from a Japanese website...I figured I would post it here for everyone. Pictures of the Gravity Shift and the new core are here:

and the Rapid Fire is here:

I am skeptical, so why don't you elaborate?  Twice now you said that you have them.  How? & what are they like?  When will the public get them?  When will the public see them?  Where are they?  ????????

On edit:  Besides Japan.  I've seen that ad.

Why so skeptical? Why the (sort-of) attitude, as if I'm lying just to push y'all's buttons?

How do I have them already? It's called guest testing for a bowling magazine.

I already elaborated a little in a previous post in this thread. Basically, the Rapid Fire has a really heavy roll in medium-heavy oil, even with the polished OOB surface, and the Gravity Shift has great midlane for a pearl with very little skid-snap (just a hard, angular arcing motion). Both balls are quite versatile and usable on a wide variety of patterns, although the GS is (naturally) a bit more sensitive to release changes/variations. On a pattern with a little dry to throw to, though, the GS just tears it up. Overall hook is close...but I can definitely see the RF handling a longer pattern better than the GS (due to the different covers, solid vs. pearl).

And as I also said, I was more impressed with the Roto Grip Pluto than either the RF or the GS...but that is neither here nor there.

I was just busting your chops.  But you didn't answer the other questions when us "non-testers" can expect them.  I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I didn't really inquire when we were testing, but I'd say February based on the Gravity Shift ad in both BJI and BTM.

I got to throw the Gravity last night.

I drilled pin 4 3/4" to PAP a little above and right of ring.  MB 3 1/2 from PAP.  Weight hole on PAP.

On fresh, ball was a little squirty so I put away until mid to end of second game.  After a couple shots to get lined up I was able to throw 13 shots, 12 good and 1 poor.  All 12 good ones packed hole, 10 strikes and 2 7 pins (I am right handed)

Last night synthetics, tonight wood, so I will add more tomorrow.  But, looks like a very good medium - medium oil ball, no issues with carry-down.

One thing, Tom (revTrex) said to me, this ball is sensitive to release variations.  The poor shot I threw was a poor release and made me look silly.

Someone asked somewhere about a comparison to the original Paradigm.  It has been a while since I had mine, but, it seems to me the Paradigm (drilled 4 x 4) was a little earlier while Gravity is a little stronger on back.  you can compare drillings and draw your own conclusion.

Hope this helps anyone interested.
