I'm not sure how these ideas never seem to be disabused in bowlers' minds; somehow, people seem to continue to want to believe that the $5,000.00 or so that the manufacturer would give to the bowler for using the new ball means more than a PBA title and the $100,000.00 first prize. Think over that last situation and tell me if anyone in their right mind would take such a risk.
Are you guys doing the wrong drugs or just not reading the right forums? (This has been discussed many, many times over the past 6-12 months here on ballreviews)
Maybe it's because you, with the "gift" of 20/20 hindsight, believe that Norm Duke (and others who have been in his position) could have seen into the future while under the intense pressure of bowling in a stadium, before a huge TV audience, competing for one of the richest AND MOST PRESTIGIOUS prizes in PBA history or under any circumstances.
OR maybe you believe that these amazing and incredibly talented bowlers, who do this for a living, are just like us league hackers who change balls at the drop of a hat? Maybe you don't believe that their incredible skill at changing every facet of their release and delivery to make these balls do the tricks that can only dream of doing. Maybe you believe that their only recourse is to change to another ball.
I'd bet every damned ball I own that after leaving that first weak 10 pin, his next 2 deliveries on that lane involved a separate release change that he believed would kick out the 10 pin, that only after the 3rd one didn't work did he try a different ball that struck the first time he threw it.
OK, I was a little brutal and a bit overly sarcastic, but how could any intelligent person ever believe such nonsense??
