VG Nano Pearl Cracked
« on: February 14, 2017, 06:01:15 PM »
Took my Nano Pearl to league last night, and when I pulled it out of the bag, discovered it had cracked almost all of the way around.  First ball I've ever had crack besides a bridge crack.   It's a bummer because I had last used it 2 weeks ago and shot my best game & series in 2 years, 279-720.  The PSO thought it was likely because it had been sitting on the carpeted bedroom floor, and the carpet wicks moisture out.  Haven't heard that before, but I'll keep my others in plastic bags from now on.

That sucks. So what are you replacing it with?

Not sure yet, but another strong pearl that's maybe a bit more angular and revs easy.   I'm open to suggestions.   Any thoughts?

Code Black, No Rules Pearl, Inception Pearl. I think all 3 of them are good choices.

The most direct replacment on the market might be the Scandal Pearl, although the difference between the symmetrical and asymmetrical cores might be a bit too much. With the Nano and Semtex CFI covers though they both have a little something extra that grips the lane.

Off the top of my head something a bit more angular that revs easy would the the No Rules Pearl or Maverick Pearl. Both are great and I doubt either would disappoint.

I'm thinking the Tyrant Pearl and True Nirvana might be a bit rounder in shape for a pearl ball, like the Snap Lock, and not fit what you're looking for. I know the Grudge core rolls really heavily so the Grudge Pearl might be in that category as well. Not a lot of first or second-hand experience with it though. Haven't seen or heard a whole lot about the Guru Limited either.

I work in water claims....unless you have an active leak, carpet typically doesn't wick moisture....and even if you had a minor slow leak, it wouldn't be enough to cause the shell of a bowling ball to crack. Additionally, you'd have a mold problem on your hands. Good Shooting w. the 279/720.

Thanks for the congrats.  There wasn't any kind of water problem, the PSO was referring to the carpet possibly pulling oil/moisture from the ball at the spot where it was sitting on the carpet, causing it to crack.  He said he's seen that before and has also seen the same thing happen with balls sitting on unpainted wood racks unless they are moved/rotated frequently.  Idk, to me it was probably just bad luck and it cracked.  Anyway, probably going to replace it with either a No Rules Pearl or a Code Black.  Vids & reviews for both look pretty good.
