Back in Bowling and Need Equipment Help
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:45:47 AM »
I'm back in bowling after a 10+ year break.  My average was 173 when I stopped and 196 now, so I've got it going in the right direction, but I need to do some tweaking to by equipment.  I bought a set of balls off of Craigslist 4 months ago.

My set includes Second Dimension (sanded 2000 abralon), Hyroad, Reign, Furious, and Fast (all OOB).  I stick with the Second Dimension, Hyroad, and Furious primarily.  I don't like the reaction too much with the Reign or Fast.  In practice at league I'll throw the Second Dimension and the Hyroad to see which ball will set up the best, but some days I have problems getting either ball to be very angular into the pocket due to the higher volume of oil.  It will take at least a game on these days for my ball and shot to find its groove.  My game is pretty straight where I will throw it up the 6 board or throw it out to 4 board; I mostly change my hand position.  I have a medium rev and my speed is about 16 mph.

My objective is to try to work with the surfaces of my balls to get one of my pieces to turn and face up with the pins on the days when it's super oily.  I feel like either sanding the Second Dimension to 1000 (it's currently at 2000) or sanding the Reign to 1000 abralon.  I would like to get any suggestions on what you think would be a good idea to do.  Do you think that sanding the Reign to 1000 would make it fit well with the Second Dimension (2000 abralon) and Hyroad (OOB)?

I would seriously appreciate any tips you have on my ball situation.  I'm excited to be back in bowling and wish that I hadn't taken a break between 16 and 26 years old.

Buy a Theory ;-)

Sanding the 2nd Dimension makes the most sense there, but frankly, you're trying to get a bunch of pearls/hybrids and a weakish solid to move on oil, it really sounds like a job for a stronger solid.
