Victory Road - Dull?

Anyone who has the victory tried to take the polish off? Results?

 Not the Victory Road but I have dulled other R2S pearl covers in the past with wonderful results. I have never gone real dull like 360-800 but works at 1000-2000 just fine. Gives more midlane read and becomes smoother off the spot without sacrificing carry.

Thats kinda what I am hoping for. It is too over/under with the polish and I am hoping that by dulling it that will smooth the reaction off the dry. Gonna try it out tonight and see what happens.

Well, that was a complete fail. Victory road sanded with a green scotch brite pad did aboslutely nothing for me. If anything it made it roll too early and burned up before it got to the breakpoint. Maybe it was the lanes or maybe the way i was playing the lanes but it just didnt look good. I am going to play around with this ball a little more before I write a full review, but so far this ball has been hit or miss, too inconsistent.

What if you took the cover down to 1000 abralon and added a moderate polish?  I bet that would smooth it out some while still giving some length.

IMO what's the point of taking a pearl cover l ike the Victory Road down to a high amount of surface you are defeating the purpose of the  ball.  On the other hand a slight hand scuff with a worn 3000 or 4000 ab  pad makes sense just to take off that over/under.
 
See  this thread on my 607A SE.  Might give some insight on pearl covers  that are strong skid-flip balls.  Though the 607A is a solid.

 I agree that green scotchbrite is probably way too low. Maybe I wasn't specific enough when I said I had success pulling that cover. I usually don't go below 2000-3000 abralon.

Try taking it back up step by step so as not to leave the deep lines the scotchbrite caused and you will see good results. Stop at 2000...if still too dull go to 3000. You should be fine there.

you could try going to 1k abralon, then taking the it to a 2k polish..... i did that with my Reign of Fire, and it worked wonders...

FYI: NEVER EVER use scotch brite on a bowling ball!!!!! Scotch brite pads put deep scratches on bowling balls that cause them to roll early and poorly.

 

Use Abralon pads for roughing up the surface!

I've been using scotch brite pads for a long time. I have never had a problem with them.

From the latest research I had read (from Victor Marion of Storm) abralons do a better job of creating surface RA, which will affect hook potential more greatly per the USBC Ball Motion Study, while scotch brite affects surface RS more, meaning that it affects a less effective part of texture more effectively, so I'm not really sure what you're going for- abralons can create more texture - deeper scratches, and scotch brite creates more frequent peaks but at lower depth- smaller scratches. Sooooooooooooo, Reginald, I disagree!

well, i put some light polish over the scotch brite surface. Seemed to work great. Really smoothed out that over/under i was seeing.
