Hyroad vs Widow Solid.........
« on: January 02, 2009, 12:04:36 PM »
What's your opinion guys?

I am thinking the Hyroad handles more carry down and oil then the Widow solid from hearing all the reviews. Plus it seems the Hyroad is more versatile too
even though it's symetrical.

I think its the Hy-Road is newer ball so it gets they hype IMO. From owning both I can honestly say the Widow Solid is the most versatile ball i've ever owned, from medium-mediumlight to heavy the ball was a savage for me with minor hand and coverstock adjustments.

My book is still out on the Hy-Road, which so far is a very nice mediums piece, pretty rolly and doesn't allow me to cross a lot of boards but does react well, I just have to give the nod to the Widow Solid and its not close.

Hy-Road is a solid/pearl hybrid and comes polished out of the box (though you can certainly dull it).  I would think the Black Widow Solid would handle carrydown slightly better just from the simple fact that it's a strong solid as opposed to a solid/pearl hybrid.  However, I will agree that the Hy-Road is probably more versatile for the same reasons I listed above, plus it has a symmetrical core.

The Hyroad cover is a bit weaker than the Troad Solid. The BW cover is stronger than the Troad.....I would give the advantage to the BW.

When it comes to versatility, are you speaking of the cover or the core or both. The MB on the widow will let you fine tune the shot shape you want better than the symmetric core. I think making a strong covered ball weak is better than making a weak covered ball strong. That would give the edge to the BW as well.

As I read the thread, what I notice is folks are comparing apples to oranges. Hy-Road, Widow & even the T-Road, 3 different balls. For one, your comparing a polished 1,500 grit hybrid to a 4,000 matte solid to a 1,000 matte solid.

In spite of the hybrid cover, the ball plays very well on oil, provided it's not to wet. But Storm does offer plenty of better options for those times when the lanes are slick. The same can be said with the Widow, there are better choices for wetter lane conditions.
