For my brother, I went with a 5 x 3 drilling, 4 inch pin buffer with the pin under the bridge in almost a RICO position. Polished with beans sauce lightly.
The ball rolled in the mids as intended with a smooth move on the backend. Just like we wanted. The first night out in his first game he went 9/ and then struck off the sheet, and then struck the first three frames of the second game. He should have put the ball up by the third game but just couldn't. Ended up with a 740 series that would have been higher if he had changed balls by the middle of the second game.
The following week, he shot a 560 series fight the VG the entire night because the oil was light and heads were burnt after the first game.
Even with the pollish, the ball still needs oil in the heads and mids to perform. It simply is not a light to medium oil ball IMO.
I have a VG drilled pin up, 5x3 that definitely flips on the backend. I have used it one game during league so far. Struggled the entire time. Shot a 179 with it and have not used it since. Had about the same results with my Rogue Cell drilled similarly last week. The balls have a very similar action, at least on our house shot.
