Ball Suggestions Anyone?
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:41:18 AM »
Im looking into finding a predictable piece of equipment.  I'm on the softer side with the speed around 15, high track with little tilt.  I have a moderate amount of hand, though im more up the back of the ball.

I have been throwing a Fired Up, Diablo, and a Dark Thunder.  The fired up works for me on broken down patterns, diablo is good for me when there is alot of oil, and my dark thunder is seeing the end of its life approaching.  All were laid out similar. (4 1/2 to PAP, pin above, cg swung slightly or stacked)

Im looking for length and a smooth response to friction, I was thinking a Solid street rod, Sure fire, or spit fire.  Any expert opinions?

Are you looking for something stronger or weaker than your current gear?  For what kind of lane conditions?

Id say weaker but i dont want to go to far with it (maybe a stronger piece with a weaker layout).  I've tried a tropical but it didnt agree as I probably had it drilled too weak.

It would be for medium to light fresh house shot I've been seeing where there is ton of friction from 10 to 15.

You can get yourself in trouble drilling a weak ball too weak, I agree.  You may have good luck with a Street Rod Pearl, or a Rotogrip Neptune.

Sounds pretty good to me. Street Rod Pearl, or Neptune. pin down under the ring finger with the cg kicked out maybe 45* Should match up pretty well to you.

Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, but it still holds the universe together.

He could probably get away with one of the vibes. I personally didnt have much success but Ive seen people very similar amount of hand and roll and it seems to work well at the THS locally also if you do get this ball Id suggest knocking the polish off as it will smoooth it out quite a bit and with a pin up it gets effortless length.

Go with a Street Rod Solid and polish it.  Reason is that a polished solid will still be a little more controllable off the friction than a pearl.  The polish will help give it length but the cover underneath is still solid so the transition down lane should still be smoother.  The OOB cover comes at 2000.  You could either take it up to 4000 if need be and/or just add some Rough Buff.  Keep it simple.  If you want smooth, go solid.  If you want more angularity, go pearl.

If you can find one yet a Sure Fire with the some polish will give you length with a very smooth move off the dry.
