Title: Virtual Gravity Initial Impressions
Post by: CHawk15 on April 26, 2009, 08:39:15 AM
When I went to the pro shop yesterday to get a couple of my other balls fixed up, I decided to pick up a Virtual Gravity.  Unfortunately for me, the ladies state tournament was running at GP yesterday, so I had to wait a few hours to try it out.  I tried it out on the house shot on the high end of the house, which is usually tighter.  This ball is going to be a monster, it was laid out with the pin over the ring finger and the MB kicked slightly out.  I started with the Cell and after a couple of games, I switched to this ball.  Right out of the box, it was a good 2-3 boards stronger than my Cell with slightly more length because of the layout and alot more kick at the backend.  Because it was creating more entry angle, it seemed to hit alot harder and pins were flying everywhere.   That's right OOB, it's not even broken in yet.

Once the VG gets broken in a little more, it's going to be an absolute beast.  I'll post a review once I get some games on it on PBA shots and other houses.

2-3 boards could be somewhat significant on a walled up house pattern though.

Keep in mind that I've had the Cell for a while and it's broken in, whereas the VG is brand new OOB and hasn't broken in yet.

Not real sure what you mean by "broken in", but from my experience the ball will calm down after you get some more games on it, I have never had one hook more as you put games on it, unless you do some sanding on it.

Dynothane's and Global's Soaker covers seem to need a break in period of about 20 games before they live up to their full potential.  For just about everything else, if it's hooking more after "breaking in", it's probably just because the cover is getting a little duller in the track area.  After 20 games with a ball 4000 grit OOB, it's probably closer to 2000 grit.

Some stuff needs like 10 or so games before it starts rolling well.  Generally, I have seen this more with polished stuff, where you need to knock some polish off to get a consistent read.  Typically the negative part, where you lose hook and pop, occurs around the 100 - 200 game mark.

Since the Cell line are real soakers, its reaction is no doubt much less than in NIB condition.  I'd like to see this comparison with both balls brand new.  I would guess that your Cell would outhook the virtual.
