I picked up a used, single drill invasion from eBay. The span of the ball was exactly mine and I wanted to get something "stronger" for tournaments coming up over the next few months. The ball arrived and I was pleasantly surprised that in addition to the span being perfect, the thumb was just a touch on the small side and the pitch was nearly right. I worked a little out of the sides of the thumb, added a couple pieces of tape. The ball was in great shape, but polished when it arrived. I cleaned up the surface, taking it to 500 Abralon, then 4000 Abralon.
I went to my local house and threw a few games on open bowling. Although the lanes were relatively dry, the ball rolled and reacted very well. I played around a little and found a nice line sliding near the left ditch, crossing 22-23 at the arrows and pushing out to around 10. For me, it seemed like the ball took a little bit of time to change directions. When I expected ball to "jump" and run high, based on experience with my other equipment, this ball seemed to hold or push a little longer before changing direction. Just a very smooth breakpoint. For playing this angle and having a smooth change of direction, this ball really seemed to hit very well. Over 4 games, I only left a single 10 pin. I actually left more (maybe 3) 7 pins. But overall, really good carry for a house in which I struggle.
I'm looking forward to find a house with a decent volume of oil in the heads. In this case, I think that the ball would show its true strength. First impression is very favorable though.
