Virtual Gravity replacement
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:10:23 PM »
Looking for a replacement for my Virtual Gravity.  This has been my go to ball for the past few years but is a bit tired.  I'm a tweener with avg speed and revs. I like to play 12-15 out to around 6-8.  I bowl 2x a week on THS with medium oil.  I usually match up well with lower RG equipment.   Any recommendations on a replacement?

Thanks

Original VG or Nano
The more I practice,the luckier I get.

You should still be able to find the Original VG fairly easily.  Or, you could potentially wait for the Zero Gravity, depending on what the reaction videos will show.

I just replaced a teammate's VG with my slightly used Theory. He loves it and is tearing them up with it. Similar drilling, same surface.

I am considering the Sync, Marvel-S and BYTE.  Interesting you have all 3 in your bag.  Of these which one do you prefer on THS?

Charlest.....really? A theory? at what surface prep?

My Theory gives me a huge move in the midlane, even with polish on it. I been trying to learn how to back off on revs, and only use a soft hand....to no avail.

I had used mine at 2000 grit + polish, but had not had a use for it in 2 years.
(Pin in ring finger, PSA/MB about 2.5" right of thumb hole, roughly 50 x 4.5 x 40 for me. When there was enough oil, one of the most powerful balls I was able to throw.)

I reset it to the VG's original surface: 500 grit/4000 grit, so he could use it as he used his Virtual Gravity. At 2000 grit, it would require too much oil even for his speed & rev rate.

ER_FAN586, I'm like billdozer and have all three balls also, and I bowl similarly to you in a medium oil house. I just picked up the Marvel-S a week ago, and I'm very happy I did. Been starting with the Marvel-S and going to the Byte when the shot starts to dry out. My Sync has just been too strong for the shot. I think the Marvel-S is a very versatile ball and may be the ticket unless you want to wait for the Zero Gravity.

Dont count out Disturbed, I changed surface to 500/1000/2000/3000 and it may be a bit earlier than the VG but it goes through the pins the same, like a truck.  Great ball and pretty versatile until the heads get blown up....I dont think the Marvel S will be as versatile, it has the Nano cover.....which needs oil....

Erfan586...

I exclusively (90% of the time) use solid on synthetics due to my speed..

The same goes for pearl on wood.

I use the sync on THS on synthetic lanes and whomp on people with it.  Drill it for length and flip as the new cover is stronger than R2X....

vkowalski1970, I thought the same thing. I mainly bowl on wood lanes and the Sync has been too much but I've been able to use the Marvel S with a lot of success. Thought about a Disturbed but a couple guys that have bought the ball have told me that it's too strong, maybe they need to change the surface. But the Byte has been money, was real hesitant buying it, really wanted a pearl with the NRG cover but I'm really happy with it.

The Disturbed at box finish 500/2000 read way to early for me on THS but at. 500/1000/2000/3000 it's been money. The cover and core are weaker than Marvel S. I threw both and liked the Marvel S motion a lot but couldn't see getting more than one game out it a night. I have a Nano for heavy oil that I bought when it first came out and it might have 15 games on it max. Great ball but too strong for me.

I also loved the original VG.  The Nanos were not good for me.  Best thing I have found since is the Lucid with a light polish for a similar look.
