Virtual Gravity-Why so popular?
« on: April 07, 2009, 12:12:38 AM »
I am seeing multiple VG on every ball rack in my area (a bit west of Philly). What I have noticed is that people aren't scoring well with them. I don't understand the popularity of this ball. This isn't a bash. I haven't thrown a VG and I don't intend to as I have no need of such a strong ball. Is the VG scoring well in your area? I haven't seen so many of the same ball since the ONE. That I understood as I saw MANY honor scores shot with it.

its popular because it has the orange in it and people by it up because it looks cool. Around me everyone has one but nothing spectacular...is it a good ball, eh i cannot say it seems to be hit or miss, but nothing special...my s75 makes the virtual look like a typical weaker ball

agree about the color and surprised no one else agrees, yes performance is amazing on the ball, but the colors of it allow others around to see and know what ball it is. In addition, it's been seen on  tv and the colors are catching to the eye!

BTW guys, we had a woman on our pair throwing a Virtual Gravity last night, and she shot a 300 against us first game.  That's probably one of the reasons we see a lot of it -- on oil, it is a great ball for creating sharp backend angle when playing inside.

A guy in our league through a 224 & 258 w/it last week. Maybe he should have put it away in the 3rd game though, he shot a 184.  Another guy is averaging higher than he ever has w/it.  If people like a certain ball, who are we to tell them they shouldn't?  It's popular because it performs for most of the people who throw it.  Granted, I can't figure mine out yet, but it's not the ball, it's me.  I need some coaching.  I am just finally figuring my Gravity out.  I took the polish off it finally w/1000 ab pad & I was killing w/it at practice yesterday.

Is not it amazing that you see the Hy-Road on tv a millions times for every one time you see the Virtual Gravity but every runs for a Virtual. I don't know what the color has to do with it, the One was not eye catching and it was everywhere. The Widow was not eye catching and it was everywhere. People want the hottest ball on the planet. In this case, they are thrown a bone because it hooks.

Honor scores has nothing to do with how good a ball is as a 170 bowler now shooting 180+ is an improvement. I've seen folks with 2-3 of them and might have put 5 games on the first one before buying the other two. That's the true benchmark of greatness, what the bowlers think!

Thats me, I only have about 25 revs and want a ball that makes it look like I have 400.

To be honest, I used mine the other day in an old peoples tournament, those over 50 and was really surprised how the ball hit. When I could get it off my hand, it would carry wall shots well. I was on oil that will be somewhat close to the nationals and the ball gave me more than I deserved.

From what I have seen this ball is pretty impressive in oil.  I have seen quite a few people are throwing this one now.

Like I said, I see it everywhere but it really isn't scoring. We have plenty of free hook in this area, and a ball like this isn't needed on our house shots.
The one and the inferno series scored huge here, so I understood their popularity

Maybe, you should ask the people who own it and aren't scoring with it why they bought it instead of asking on BR.  I have one for heavy oil and if it's not there then it stays in the bag because it's all about match ups.

I personally don't care much for the ball, but from what I've seen the most striking thing about it is the hitting power.  It hits hard and carries well, in just about everyone's hand I've seen it in.

IMHO, I find it to be overrated.  Good ball, yes, but not worth all the hype.  Of the 3 leagues I am in, tons of people have them and most shouldn't.  It is too much ball for most bowlers.  I think the reason is b/c on one of the first shows 4 out of 5 bowlers used it on tv, creating too much hype.  I rarely see it used any more by the pros.

I own it and the Hyroad and to me the Hyroad is a much, much better ball.

In our area, big hook = big sales. I have used it since I got mine back in November. At first it was so strong that I had to really open up my angles to get it out on the lane and not have it hook in my face.

Now that it has some oil soak, I use it when I need to get left into the league puddle and send it away from the pocket. This is when the ball really shines for me.

I haven't seen a ball on every rack around since the Absolute Inferno came out a couple of years ago.

I think people talking about how it is over-hyped and not that great, adds to the hype.  I'll still hype up mine though, its pure amazing sauce!
