IQ tour Pearl and Rotogrip Wrecker
« on: May 03, 2013, 09:30:35 PM »
Hi Everyone

I have looking at these balls and I'm wanting to know if they are too similar.

I know layouts will be a factor but I'm wanting them both

If you need to see how I bowl

The IQ Tour Pearl is going to be meant for medium conditions and it does have a nice backend motion to it.  One of the common things that I have seen in league with people throwing it this year is that the Tour Pearl seems to be a little more condition specific and did not carry as well on house patterns.  For example, lots of 10's being left and then some over/under.  The people who have been throwing it for the most part mentioned they would not use it on a house shot.  Tournament and sport patterns on the other hand is where that ball shines the most.

A suggestion for something that would be a bit more versatile is going with either the Cross-Road or Hy-Road.  The Cross-Road is a medium condition ball, and is a stronger hybrid than the Wrecker.  That ball is clean up front, and produces a similar motion, but will give you an extra few boards of room to work with.

The Hy-Road is another great hybrid, and would do the same.  However, it's flexibility is that you can use in on medium and medium-heavy conditions (Cross-Road is medium).  The Hy-Road has been on the market over 4 years now and it truly is a good benchmark ball to work with.  This would probably give you the most flexibility in terms of what to fill on the medium ball spot.

So even though the IQ Tour Pearl is an ok ball, and unless you're regularly bowling in tournaments,  I think you're better spending your money on the Cross-Road or Hy-Road.  Both of those will be a bit more versatile and tend to carry better on house shots.

The Wrecker is a hybrid that's going to be a medium-light condition ball.  It tends to go a little longer but saves its energy for the back.  Based on what I saw with the video, I think the Wrecker will work for what you want to do.

To sum it up:
Medium-Light: Roto Grip Wrecker
Medium: Storm Cross-Road or Storm Hy-Road.

Well put. The diff is just too low on the IQ balls for most people to strike a lot on house conditions. On flatter patterns these two balls are great.

But it's all on the backend .... It's more skid/flip than its pure pearl counterpart the Shatter.

Indeed.  I haven't seen that type of skid/flip come out of Utah since the original Reign.

As for the tour pearl-I will agree that the ball is phenomenal on sport patterns, but they are just as effective on a house shot too.  I've yet been in any house for any league without seeing at least 5 or more scattered about.  I don't bowl without one with me.

If I was to choose between the hyroad or the crossroad, I'd pick the Hyroad each time.

My Wrecker was almost unusable at first.  I started hooking sooner than almost any ball in my bag.  I had to have it redrilled twice to get it to go down the lane.  I was hooking in the mids like the 41 ft house pattern was a 35 ft short oil shot.  Carries very well, but is not a favorite of mine.
