Want to try Storm again.
« on: March 17, 2007, 05:00:03 PM »
I have been having a lot of success with Ebonite and Hammer at the moment, but I have been hearing alot about the new N2S or NS2 or whatever, cover that storm has on the Shift, Special, and T-Road..    I currently have a Total NV, Black Widow, Pain, Doom, and Black Ice that I usually have in my bag..  I have several others, but those see the most use...

I would like to add a Special Agent and was wondering if it would fit well with the selection of balls I have now...  If not, do you think a Shift will be a better option...

My RPM's avg from 5 test shots 405
My total speed from 5 shots 16.97
My speed at the pins from 5 shots 15.68
My PAP is 4 1/4 > and 1/2 ^

These numbers were taken from Ebonite Bowlers MAP, place a piece of tape from PAP to over finger holes and use the RPM Calculator.. These were readings from a few months ago...

I throw all storm but must admit that the Ebonite/Hammer line up is very strong right now so there really is no reason 2 switch it if it is working for you...

That  being said I'm a big Fan of my T-Road Pearl (4.5 Pin-Pap Cg kicked out an inch w/ an X-Hole 3 3/8" under my Pap)... Didn't care 2 much for the Thunderstruck Pearl (was 2 rolly).

I also like my Agent, Fired Up, Tropical (but the whirl wind may be better)

With what you already own, I think a special agent would fit well.  Most of the stuff you already have is of the "go long and flip" variety.  A Special Agent would give you a nice strong continuous arc.  Similar to the Pain (that's the purple one right?) only stronger.

Hehe...  aaryq,  Which of these three Storm balls did you try and how did it not work for you?

I just bowled a new high series for myself with a Thunderstruck Solid last night.  I am not sure if it is the one true evil in the universe but if it is then I will gladly give myself to the sweet grape-smelling evil.

Ok, my opinion is just the opposite. I have had much more success with Storm than Hammer and Ebonite. I have the Total NV and it doesn't work for me worth a crap. Granted it might be the drilling/lane conditions and the way I throw, but the same drilling/lane conditions, my Storm balls storm back.

Like you, just an opinion.

I just know what I am seeing in my league.  Some people are getting the Total NV thinking it is going to solve all their problems, and I don't see any revolutionary performance or carry out of it.  It rolls OK and hits like a bowling ball (like most bowling balls).  I personally don't see the hype but maybe it fills a spot in the Ebonite arsenal that everyone has been waiting for.  It has to be pretty good or everyone wouldn't be so excited about it.

I was just wondering if they had even tried any of Storm's current lineup.  Especially the R2S balls that the original poster was asking about.  Just curious what the problems were with those balls because I know my Special Agent is smooth on oil and it carries.

Agreed.  All I gotta say is what ball company has been featured and won the most tournaments this year?  What ball company has the most diverse product line on the planet?  What ball company continues to innovate the bowling industry with coverstocks out of this world?  What ball company created my Vertigo that has several hundred games on it and still reacts the same as the first day I got it without resurfacing or major cleaning?

I have read that the Shift is great for medium oil and it has the new asymmetrical core.  The Special Agent comes 2000 grit Abralon (dull) and has the Agent symmetrical core.  Both have the R2S...  The Special is for medium-heavy conditions and has a really smooth controllable hook.  The Special has great midlane and has that continuous move on the back.

I guess it would come down to which type of reaction do you want and what types of conditions do you want to use it on.  You know your style so you would know which ball would work the best.

I've used the Special and it is awesome.  I haven't used the Shift yet but I see that some people are doing really good with it.  Some people have been emphasizing that the Shift is for a medium oil condition so that's something to look into.  Of course, one person's medium may not be another person's medium and style also plays a big factor...

I really wouldn't go to Storm if I were you I mean Hammer's stuff is just Awesome right now and if you heavn't tried a ball from Banger Bowling yet you really should I have the Pearl Hole Pounder and it is just incredible and I have heard very good things about Solid Hole Pounder at Nationals give them a try. Or MoRich you can't go wrong with I never have!

Thanks for all the constructive posts..

I shot 801 in city tournament with my Total NV, and I shot 806 with my Pain earlier this year.  Those are my first 800's ever..  I rolled 300 with the Matrix Trimax III, Hammer Doom, and the X-Factor (Which I still have but is completely dead, I tried to use it the other day and went straight as an arrow, may try to revive it sometime)

I have use the Thunder Road Pearl, X-Factor, and Trauma, all of which I really liked, but found them kind of condition specific..

I was thinking about either the Shift because of the Particle cover and the Special because of the 2000 dull cover which would hopefully give me a nice rolly reaction like my Pain but a bit stronger like my Total NV..

Also, I have just heard a lot of great things about their new cover and wanted to see what it was all about...

Yeah, it is sad so many people overlooked this ball to stay "loyal" to their usual brand.  This may be a top 10 or top 20 ball of all time.  In tournaments, I see people use it.  A couple weeks ago I was bowling on a pair with an ex-PBA bowler of 20 years.  What did he put out on the ball return rack? - The VERTIGO!!!  Vertigo = versatile, excellent, strong, amazing!

I hear the Special Agent is kind of the new Vertigo...  Maybe that's why everyone likes it so much.
