Doug... I never said the choices you made wouldn't work...I am just going off the information that he provided, his old ball. Like Robert said; going from a purple rhino pro to some of the equipment you listed is a pretty big jump depending on the exact ball. I just thought the with what I have seen with the Sonic X Solid thus far that it would push down the lane enough for him and not over react in the backend. I still feel that if he bowls on a drier shot and is having sucess with the PRP...why would you want to stick him in something that will react to the dry earlier than what he is throwing? If you look at the list you provided you have to admit that you have a pretty wide range of reactions listed...anything from a Viper up to a Re-Loaded. If he can combat the current oil pattern with what he has and just wants a new ball...why not stick him in something that will be close to what he already has? Maybe the Sonic X Solid isn't the best choice...but it's what first came to mind yesterday when I read his post. From what I remember the PRP had a low diff & RG...there aren't a whole lot of bowling balls out there that will do that now a days. But I supposed depending on surface prep of the new ball and how his old one is drilled the possibilities do get bigger. Maybe a Hot Wire would be the answer...or considering the core of the PRP an Ultra Hot would be best?
This is why I don't usually like to make ball recommendations on this board. It's sometimes tough to recommend equipment when I have a person walk into my shop. It's by far tougher for anyone to make an exact recommendation over the internet having not seen what exactly a person bowls like, how his old equipment is laid out, etc.
This is my $0.02 for what it is worth...
