what current storm ball best compares to the anarchy?
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:04:58 AM »
Just curious as I have an anarchy but will probably be looking for a new ball soon and I love the anarchy....it has been a great ball for a stroker like myself.

I would go with a Nano Pearl.  It is an Asymmetric pearl like the Anarchy.  The Nano Pearl is going to be a little bit stronger off the spot than your Anarchy but you can get a very similar reaction with the proper layout.

If you really like the Anarchy and aren't worried about trying something new, I'd have to imagine you could find a new Anarchy somewhere. Try ebay.

They are actually more rare than you'd imagine.  Now that they are retired, people want crazy amounts for them.  I saw a NIB on ebay sell Buy it now for 199 plus shipping!!! I would never spend that much on one but someone did.  I have 2 NIB in the basement!!!

This is not true for most Bowlers.

just to add a little bit more information..i use a pin up (over ring finger) drilling.  Because of multiple wrist surgeries, I only have about 200-225 for a rev rate.  I average around 210.  I The vast majority of the time I'm bowling on medium volume.

The Nano Pearl will be the most similar.  Overall, the core numbers are almost identical.  The Anarchy's Origin Core had 2.49RG/.054 Diff whereas the Nano Pearl has 2.48RG/.052 Diff on the Shape-Lock Core.  The NRG Pearl cover will be slightly stronger but you should have a very similar motion overall with the right layout.

If you look towards the Lucid, you'll find more of a pure pearl cover compared to having the NRG additives.  Big difference is the shape of the M.A.D. Core will be more rolly whereas the Shape-Lock Core seems to be a little more continuous and angular in the back part of the lane.  The Lucid's 2.52 RG/.050 Diff numbers are similar to what the Anarchy had but you'll end up with a higher RG/lower Diff combo.

As tommyboy74 stated, the RG and Diff numbers are very similar with the main difference being cover.  The R3X pearl is not that much of a step down from NRG so he should see a very similar reaction shape.  The MB diff is a little bit higher on the Shape Lock HD core which means it will read friction harder than the Anarchy, hence the "stronger off the spot" comment.  It most definitely is true for ALL bowlers.

When I think of the VNP, ”more off the spot” than an Anarchy is pure comedy. The VNP was considered by most relatively soft downlane.

Thanks for posting this.  The video doesn't lie.  The Nano Pearl vs. Anarchy comparison proved that the Nano Pearl IS stronger off the spot.

Ok? Just because the VNP has more overall hook does not mean its more in the back.

No...you're right about that.  However, the MB diff of .020 in the VNP versus .017 in the Anarchy DOES mean the VNP will read the friction harder and therefore, backend more.  The difference isn't going to be huge BUT there will be a difference.  They are both pearls with early rolling cores but Nano's core backends harder.  Simple as that.  It's physics.  The numbers don't lie.  Granted, layouts can tame the backend reaction BUT if both balls are layed out the same then the Nano Pearl is going to be stronger in the mids as well as the backend.

I simply disagree, I had both balls, laid out the same and the VNP was not as much downlane. IMO, the cover slowed down faster, thus softer in the back.

Obviously there wasn't enough volume of oil for the VNP.  Perfect example of a ball not being used on a condition for which it was meant.  Both balls thrown on HEAVY oil with the same layout will result in the VNP being "harder off the spot".
