Title: What do I need?
Post by: buildinazuk on January 07, 2010, 05:13:40 AM
My wife got me a gift card for christmas to the local pro shop.  Now I just have to figure out what kind of ball to get. I use a virtual Gravity and a Second Dimension.  Anyone have any ideas on what I need next?

I also have a Virtual Gravity and 2nd in my bag at the moment looking to get a third ball. Ive heard alot of good things about the HyRoad and am possibly thinking about one for myself, so I'm going to say get a HyRoad.

Well my Reign handles carry down really well, when my AMF Code wiggles in the carry down my Reign bites rite threw it. Its a great 1,2 punch.

 Hope this helps.

hyroad and fast are both very good choices. I have a fast and on most conditions its pretty good ,the people i have seen throw the hyroad throw it really well. the hyroad is a good all around ball depending on how you drill it. I recomended one to a friend of mine and he has been shooting over 740 every time he picks it up.

I agree with tenpins.  Either one of those two will help give you a more diverse arsenal.

How bout some information?  Rev rate, axis tilt, axis rotation, lane conditions, lane surface, ball speed, what do you struggle with, what do you WANT out of something new....

Without most of that, recommending a ball is very difficult.

The Fast looks great for a mid price ball to me. Have been seeing a ton of them lately and they are nice and clean with a downlane motion.

Should round out your current bag nicely.

Get a Hyroad. It's the best ball I've ever thrown.

I like the Hy-Road too, but he has a 2nd Dimension (a hybrid)...  He's looking for a 3rd ball & already has a solid & a hybrid cover.  The Reign is a pearl & would give him one of each cover.  Could be what he's looking for in my opinion.

I am a tweener with medium rev and medium speed.  I am looking for a weaker ball.  There are times when the VG and the Dimension 2 is to strong for the lanes.  I bowl on Brunswick synthetic lanes.  The THS I bowl on isn't to heavy with oil. VG is good for typically 2 games before I have to go to another ball.  The Dimension more often then not is to strong of a ball by the 3rd game.

I would say Hy-Road myself.  The Reign comes in a close second.

Went to the pro shop today to see what they had on stock.  It ended up that they had reigns on sale for 122 drilled out the door.  For that price I went with the reign.  Thanks for all your help!

Virtual energy is an excellent option.

I assume your pro shop person has seen you bowl. He should be able to fit it in where you need it.
Personally I have my Reign drilled like my second dimension (5x4 from my PAP)...

WOW $122 out the door, that is a great price, you got one hell of a deal, and one hell of a great ball.

I gotta agree, that price is one heck of a deal for a recent ball....  I got one for my b-day & Christmas.  I paid, including tax, drilling, thumb slug & finger inserts, about $65-70 more... But I also got an eval & advice from Jeff Carter at the Storm open house in that price..... But still.... Great price.

As far as layouts go.  Determine what you wanted the Reign for compared to what your other balls are doing & how they''''re drilled.  Then ask your driller based on that info.  He should find your pap & like someone else suggested, watch you bowl.

I drilled mine pin above & slightly right of ring, 5" from pap putting the cg 3" right & 1 1/2" above grip center 3 1/4" from pap w/2000ab polish. Compared to my other balls that are drilled slightly even or just below & right of ring.  I wanted it to give me more length & energy down lane on light & drier conditions.  I have an old urethane I want to get the span adjusted on just to see what I can do w/it on the same conditions.

The best part about getting such a good deal is my wife got 100 in gift cards for 30 dollars.  They had an online gift card special, buy a 50 dollar card for 15.  So after its all said in done I get a new ball for around 50 total dollars.  I think when I have them drill the ball it will be drilleda little weak.  I am looking for a ball that will work for me when the lanes break down toward the end of the night.
