What happen to Robert Smith?
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:01:12 AM »
He signed with Elite. Booooooo!
They shouldn't of let him go. I can see they signed Riga Kalfas & David Leverage.

Jeff, do you know why they let Robert go?

Robert had a choice...and he made the one he thought was best...and I hope Robert will have a great season this year on tour...on Brian Voss...he was injured most of the year so him ended in 41st in points is not that bad. He will bowl the PTQ's this year..and he will make a telecast and win a tour event to get back on tour. Switching company's is sometimes good cause when you think about it you might need a change just to try something new like PA did.

I love that we remember the ONE title Voss won with an Elite ball. How about all of the shows he did not make. He was still making shows as a AMF staffer and their equipment was bad then.

Duke had a broke toe, not a stubbed toe. And no doubt a back with TAKE YOU OUT of bowling. But my man BV has not had any real action armed with those Elite balls. Maybe they are good, but they are like Lane 1 rocks...to much money for no extra performance.

If we're going to rip on the fact that Elite balls have only been used to win one title, let's not forget the other smaller companies with no wins in recent times.  When was the last time a Rotogrip ball won a stop?  Fine equipment, I don't see anyone really complaining about Tommy D's choice to use it or not.  AMF, too.  And who can forget Lane 1?

It's not the quality of the equipment that's at issue.  Making shows is not about how good the equipment is.

It bull Robert is trials bound because now he don't have the support he did with storm. Storms tour rep helped everyone on there staff in every event but im not so sure elite has the experience yet.

jefftaker2002,

So you know, X Guy Billy Yinger is one of the most experienced tour reps working the PBA.  Maybe you didn't know this.

I never thought Storm was the right company for someone with Robert Smiths ball speed and rev rate.

I just hope he made the switch based on ball reaction and not because of money, because Patrick Allen showed what can happen when you don't match up with company.

Reading this thread gave me a headache.

Maybe Robert wanted to change? Does anyone really know for sure the real reason whether he was let go or walked on his own? Don't be so quick to judge someone's decision.

As for CJ's comment about PA and the lefties, maybe sour grapes, but there was a stretch where the lefties had here until next tueday and the righty's had like 1/8" in comparison. Personally, I don't think the Track stuff at that time maytched up at all with PA's roll. He won a few regionals with Track equipment, but weren't the regionals on different patterns than the tour was then?

AS for Brian Voss, let him do it his way. He was injured last season and that didn't help his cause to end up not being exempt. He also is not a real big fan of all of the tehnology and is very outspoken about it if I remember correctly. I'm sure we'll see him again sometime soon. He is a MAJOR championship winner as well as a HALL OF FAME member.

Just my .02 worth, so give me my change please! :-)
