Shift + T-Road Pearl?
« on: March 05, 2007, 07:30:16 AM »
Hey guys, I'm looking into trying something new.  I've watched the Marketing DVD on the Storm Shift and I must say I am very impressed.  Especially how it made the Angular One look like a complete dud on a THS.  I'm looking for two "middle of the road" type balls that can complement each other with one being angular and the other relatively smooth, but the same breed of cover so they complement each other a bit easier.  What I mainly want to know is how strong indeed can the T-Road Pearl be?  Everyone I have spoken to says it's a monster on the backend, but the ones I'v eseen in person seem a bit smooth up front and not a huge change of direction in back.   Give me your opinions on both balls for a 1-2 punch.

Ball buying idiot to the rescue here I just got my t-road pearl last wednesday night used it 2 different shots and lane surfaces. You are dead on the the t-road is smooth upfront and makes a very readable transition to dry boards. The term in my crazy mind is angular transition not a sharp move but not really an arc either. The last ball i have threw with the same move was the silver diamond buzzsaw, for me it was more a rolly arc that never stopped.

My shift is almost the same move upfront but when it hits dry backends without alot of carrydown watch out it keeps on hooking and hooking. Being i have a pin under ring shift with an assymetrical flip drilling it does not surprise me any though.

I happen to have 2 of the angular ones and the one i have in box finish is more skid/snappy off the dry boards but less control than the shift. When using the Shift i can tell you i know 2/1's and 1/0's moves will work correctly but with the angular one it tends to not come up enough when you do larger moves. Probably the 4k and polish versus the 1500 and polish surface differences thinking about this, i would think the shift would be more over/under if it had same exact surface as the angular one.

T-road pearl control
Shift thats the right name for this ball, it should called the huge shift oops that might be the next one.

Angular one yes very angular i like the 2k matte ball better than oob.

Pro shops received a DVD.  In it Randy Peterson throws the Shift up against an Angular One with the same layout.  Angular One was dying and puking while the Shift was cutting through the backends and driving hard.  Thanks for the responses so far.  I rarely see clean backends unless I'm bowling on a Sport Shot or in my PBA leagues so I think the Pyro might be a more viable choice over the T-Road if I can get my hands on one.

So you are looking for the Shift and then something smoother to compliment it?

Something with the same backend motion on a transitioning pattern.  I will be attending a Shift Seminar thursday so I should have all of my questions answered then.  As well as a new Shift!

marketing at its finest i doubt the angular was really puking out, they are almost exactly the ball motions. Ebonite will probably show the shift puking out against there ball too, marketing is what is all about.

The video shows the same Layout with Randy throwing it in real time against the Shift(with no obvious edit cuts).  The Angular one was not making the turn and left the the 2pin, 2-8, 2-4-5, and 2-8 on 4 consecutive shots on the same line as the Shift.  Then he switched back to the shift after 5 shots with the Angular One and it recovered off the same spot.  The AO obviously looked like it was laboring, although there was no mention of what the pattern was.  It looked like a THS and both balls were played in the oil in the middle.  I will report on what I find out from first hand observation at the seminar Thursday.

I went to the seminar and got a chance to throw the Shift, Jolt Particle and a T-Road Pearl (was not a demo ball. Randy Pedersen brought his own T-Road and I have a similar span. I think he has a square thumb) I threw these on a couple pairs of lanes at Kegel. Im not sure on the patterns but one was similar to a house shot and the other somebody mentioned was the US Open pattern (Not really sure on this... The oil pattern was on a big screen above the lanes).

Both balls were clean through the heads. The T-Road would start to read towards the end of the midlane, the Shift checked up much sooner. The T-Road made a nice move in the backend towards the pocket but was no where near as continuous as the Shift. I could not play as deep as I could with the T-Road but when I played a straighter line the ball hit like a truck. I already own a T-Road Pearl and I can't wait to drill my Shift tomorrow. I was surprised with the Jolt Particle. I thought that the ball moved very well with the older coverstock. This ball reads the midlane and made a nice arc to the pocket.

If your looking for something stronger then the Shift you might want to consider the Special Agent, it has the same R2S coverstock.
