If you have an inconsistant release then symetrical is the way to go. I personally like the control of symetric and being in the lower rev catagory, don't think I can get the full benefit that asymetricals can give.

For me, asymmetric balls tend to be more condition-specific.  Either they're carrying everything, or carrying nothing.  There's no in-between.  If I am throwing something asymmetrical and hang a couple 10 pins, it's time to put it up because that ball is just not going to carry again for the rest of the night.

I have had the exact same experience with asymms. Once I hang a coupla 10-pins, I just put the ball up. No amount of moving on the lane is going to change the outcome. Conversely, when the ball is hitting.....it's carrying the world, and everyone is looking at you like..."How is he doing that?"

Since you are abviously a newby to the sport, just keep checking in to Ballreviews on a regular basis and listen to the chatter back and forth, and you'll start to understand. Also, be sure and go to the Ball manufucturers listing on the left here, and study every core of every ball you currently use.

Generally speaking, if you could make a section of your core, (cut it in half) and one half of the core appears to be a mirror image of the other, no matter where you make that cut......then you have a symmetrical core.

With asymms there is generally only one cut that will give you the mirror image. Any other cut from any other angle will give you two completely asymm parts. Hope that helps.
