Virtual Gravity...maybe I can work with it afterall
« on: June 02, 2009, 05:14:05 PM »
Been having issues with it.... with lots of over/under type results.

As I noticed a couple of recent reviewers have pointed out, you have to maintain full concentration with this one or it will be all over the place. ---HOWEVER...

I also have noticed that trying to be "careful" or slow down too much to get it to roll, didn't work for me either. Seems to almost need an aggressive delivery to go with it's nature. When I finally stopped trying to aim the thing, and just let it fly at a decent speed to a certain point on the lane and trusted it would come back, it did.  Also... I tend to be a down and in type player, and this ball is pretty useless for that shape of trajectory.

It does help the rev-challenged players add some revs, but.... rev challenged players tend NOT to roll the ball toward the gutter and let it come back. Most, because of their low revs, I would think, are down and in style. So... ironically, if you buy this ball because you've heard or seen it help rev-challenged bowlers get some "stuff" on the ball.... you'll also need to learn to abandon your down and in style when using it, and swing it out somewhat.

Anyway... that's my opinion at this point.

Yes. Exactly.  Only... the plan was for the ball to help compensate for lack of revs, versus force the application of some roll to bowl successfully with it.

I was planning to buy the 2nd Dimension, but the Pro Shop recommended the VG. Have had some success swinging it out, but since that is a style I don't use often, the accuracy suffers, hence the inconsistency with the ball.

Guess I've sort of decided to "learn" to bowl with it the way it wants to be rolled vs selling or trading it. When I succeed, it is a great ball (hits hard, comes back, etc....). When I forget and throw it with my normal down and in delivery, it's very frustrating.

Either I'll master it and also gain the ability to deliver other balls that way, or .... or I'll decide some day it's not the one for me.

It should have come with a warning label: "Caution.... you may need to change your usual delivery in order to have success with this ball".

:-)

I am "crazy over" the VIRTUAL because the first 8 tournaments I used it I bowled for the title 7 times. And was on everything but the flat U.S. Open pattern in the Iowa Open to PBA sport patterns to house china.

Only requirement: oil up front so it doesn't blow up and quit.

Wish I could throw a Rogue Cell but it sure wouldn't get me to put away my VIRTUALS.

There IS a reason the VIRTUAL has been the No. 1 ball for quite a while now.

Just don't think it means it works on every condition for every bowler. There is no such ball and never will be.
