X-Factor Reloaded won't hook

Hello all, since I'm fairly new to bowling I went with some advise and bought the Reloaded online to save money- I did homework on ball but didn't know about pin placements...The driller pointed out that the pin was about 5 1/2 inches from the CG but "found" a way to drill it after I asked should I send it back. Another Pro shop sanded it down to 320 and the ball still doesn't out hook my Power Groove! What should I do...get it redrilled, sand it with a higher grit or am I at a lost?

I'm a tweener/stroker with medium revs and speed.  And the ball is for heavy oil. Thanks

I am not by any means a "storm" person. The Reloaded should hook though. What kind of condition are you trying to use the ball on?
Just a note, @ 320grit the ball was probably burning up. Try to wet sand it 800-1000grit. that will help a bit.


Without all of the proper info.....your PAP, the layout on the ball it is really difficult to "guess".

I have a reloaded too. For me that ball skids alot before it starts to hook. I Feel that its not a real good heavy oil ball.

For me the xfactor-duece seems to hook more then my reloaded

Might I ask what stacked leverage is?  I want to know what to look for and to make sure the driller knows what he's doing.  You guys rock I hate that I waited so long to get introduced to this great sport!

Yes, this sport is great and there can be a great deal of science in it and required for drillings and to truly get tot know balls. But I have to offer some advice which, while I knwo it is not what you want to hear, I really believe it necessary for someone to say: you are approaching this from the wrong point of view.

If you are fairly new to bowling and you bought one of the newest, strongest and most sophisticated (to drill) balls ONLINE, without having a regular driller/pro shop and have already gone to two different pro shops, this is the equivalent to learnign how to swim by going out into the  middle of  toronado or a water spout 10 miles from shore, jumping into the ocean to learn how to swim!

I don't know exactly how "new" you are to bowling, but here's some tips for any starter. (I'm kind of surprised that you're already classifying yourself as a "tweener/stroker with medium revs and speed".)

One, online information can be helpful, and we can offer lots, but first and foremost, you need to get a good local pro shop and stick with it. Second, you need to learn how to bowl - this can only be done by doing, not by reading. A good coach to help you get the basics down pat is an essential. You can do yourself so much damage but not learning the real basics. Third, nothing will help the new bowlers average as much as making spares - NOTHING.

Some notes:

- A 5.5" pin is almost a blem or a second, unless you asked for it. However, that 5.5" pin to CG distance will make the ball do some strange things, especially to a newbie. I personally won't even accept such a ball. It limits drillings a great deal. 2-3" pins or 3-4" pins are the most common and the most versatile.
 
- The Reloaded is not a heavy oil ball, in any case.
- If your Power Groove hooks more, then you definitely do not have heavy oil, maybe not even medium oil.
- "Stacked Leverage" is the most powerful drilling for a ball (and often, the least versatile and least desirable drilling.) For some bowlers, it looks like the pin and the CG are stacked one on top of the other, but this is not the true position for most people to get the most powerful overall reaction. It depends ont hebowler's PAP, positive axis point.

I got the reloaded expecting more from it.  I snaps well in the back end, but is very clean thru the heads.  This ball makes an extremely late break.  If you were expecting this to turn early then you have the wrong ball in your hands.  Duece will turn earlier and more of an arc But I see my duece rolling out early sometimes and the reloaded will stay clean and reserve a ton of energy thru the pindeck.  I did have to take a scotch brite to it to get the reaction that I was looking for though.  box condition a bit weak.  If I were you, get it around 600 to 800 grit wet sand.  Look for the ball to not turn at all till it hits the dry.  Depending upon how your ball is drilled, it might not fit your style.  The extreme pin-out can really limit your pro-shop with drilling options which it sounds to me like you have already experienced.  Long pin-outs like you have and force drilling which increase finger weight and cause the ball to go longer before hooking up.  One thing that you might consider is having a balance hole drilled out (OFF OF YOUR PAP)  This could help to increase the flare of the ball and maybe cause it to turn a little earlier.  As most other people will tell you however, go find someone with a higher average that perhaps has this ball, and have them watch you throw.  They might be able to see something that you can alter to get more out of the ball.
