A couple of years ago I bought a couple of Jeff Carter's old PBA-used stuff and one of the balls I got was a Paradigm. It was a great ball for me during the time I had it but I hadn't used it in a few months. It had been sitting on a ball rack in my house in a climate-controlled area.
So I'm moving it the other night back to another rack in another room and along the way, I have to stop in our kitchen. I balanced the ball on the thumbhole on the kitchen counter while I turned around to pick up something I dropped and when I turned back, the ball had cracked not once, but three times -- huge cracks, all of them going all the way around the ball. It looked like the lines on a basketball.
All the cracks apparently emanated from the ring finger hole. One divided the ball in half along the centerline, the other went around the top of the ball like a halo, leaving the ring finger going to the right and coming back around to the middle finger hole on the left. The third one started in the ring and went diagonally back around to the thumbhole. The cracks were so vicious that it deformed the two finger inserts.
I never heard it crack. I've heard people say they hear a "pop" if they're near one when they crack but this one went silently. I gave it a brief moment of silence before pitching it in the can.
Great ball, and I got a lot of use out of it for the price, so I'm not upset. But D*MN this thing nearly exploded in my kitchen...
