Which ball
« on: January 01, 2004, 10:13:50 PM »
I am after a new ball, i currently throw the euro storm 2, on reasonablly dry wooden lanes, i am after something to throw on mid to heavy oilled synthetic lanes, the balls i have in mind are the x-factor deuce, or the fear factor, but im having trouble deciding which

(also depending on how much the duece/fear cost, i would consider the hot rod, after seeing it bowled on oil, and realising as said in many of its reviews, it is a stronger ball than storm advatise).

From what i can see, the fear factor is a slightly stronger ball in oil than the duece(which itself is strong), im just woried that if i got the fear factor, the particle coverstock would die quite early(something i cant afford to happen)

Any advice would be gratefully recieved

The Fear Factor would be better when you need a wrinkle in heavy oil.  The Duece and Power Charge will perform better if your looking to cover some boards on medium heavy oil.

Any info you can give about yourself or the lanes would help a lot.  Ball speed, revolutions, tilt, PAP, wood/synthetic, type/volume of oil....

speed is around 15.5 mph
Medium revs, medium track flare
Bowl mainly on dry wood lanes, but looking for something to work well on med oil synthetics
(sorry i dont know much of the tech stuff, so find it hard to describe my shot)

My euro is fine on the drier wood lanes, but i have only had sucess with it on the synthetics if i dull it down a little uising track magic clean and dull, and even then, i have to drop my ball speed a little. Ideally i want something that is going to be a bit to big for me to throw on the drier wooden lanes, but will play as strong on the med oil synthetic lanes as my euro does on dry wood.

I have seen the deuce thrown on the medium oil synthetics with great results (same with the reloaded). Havnt seen a fear factor yet, but from what i can gather it is slightly stronger than the deuce

Im bowling at the centre im looking to get a ball for on monday, so i will try and find out details about their oil pattern, as far as i can tell, the pattern isnt much longer than the one i play on regulally, just denser, added to that the fact that the lanes are synthetic and i only really get to practice on wood, and i think thats why i currently have trouble getting as much hook down here as i do at home.

+thanks for all the advice, keep it coming, its very well recieved
