Agent/FiredUp vs Eraser Blaze & tech help
« on: May 17, 2006, 02:06:20 AM »
My current ball is a pretty beat up Eraser Blaze.  I'm not a hardcore bowler like some of my friends but I have learned to crank the ball.  At first I was kinda releasing the ball really late (starting turning it when my hand was in front of me already) and chucking it up to get a strong backend.  Recently I wanted to fix my technique so I've been trying to release it earlier (near my feet) and reving it earlier.

But I've been having this problem of either hooking out or rolling out.  My ball would begin to hook after the break point, but then right before the pocket it kinda still continues towards pocket but it looks like its rolling forward instead.  I wouldn't get much pin action at all, and almost always leave a 10 pin.  My ball speed is definetly not fast, and I dont get a lot of revs either.  Its just mediocre I guess.

My lane conditions range from med to heavy oil, to a lot of medium to light oil recently.  I usually stand on the second dot from the left, or if really dry, on the last dot on the left. And I aim for 4th & 5th arrow.  (sorry for the newbie terms).

so:
1) Do you have suggestions on how to improve my technique to prevent this rolling out?  Is it as simple as just lifting more to get more revs? I dont really like to play more inside, I just dont like being near the right gutter.

2) I thought I would get a new ball since my Eraser is pretty beat up, and maybe it could help me overcome my rollout.  I'm addicted to the Storm pin action, I dont get as much pin action as my friends' Ace, Trauma, or Hammer, but a lot of it could be becuz im weaker than them?

Do you think Agent would be better for me, Fired Up, or maybe Pyro, or any others?  I want as MUCH pin action as possible, with lots of carry so I dont leave those 10's, and to eliminate that rollout problem.

How is your PAP, and how is your Eraser Blaze drilled? The ball should be suited well for lighter conditiosn, as far as I know, So I suspect a basic problem.

10 pins are mostly an entry angle problem, whn the ball hist the pins. The balls you consider are IMHO stronger than your EB, so the problem, unless drilled weak for a soft(er) back end, might keep on - especially when you have good revs on the ball.

I'd rather recommend something softer, maybe a Hot Rod Hybrid if you want to stick with Storm. Very good and readable ball for lighter to medium conditions. With a drilling 5 " from PAP and the CG at about 4", the ball should be tame enough for you and have a rather shallow entry angle which shoudl give you a different look than the EB.
