Erase-it Dull or Polish?
« on: March 16, 2004, 01:39:16 PM »
Ok, i got a used Erase-it from my cousin and had the fingers drilled monday and went to use it, during leagues,  Well i thought this ball would give me more of a backend, or be able to play more in the oil, it wasnt to be.

the drilling is a i think a 3 3/8 x 4

I tried playing this ball deeper inside 4th arrow out to 10 but ball would turn but always came up very light.

So i moved over and played 15-10 and when the ball would hit dry, it would make a nice turn to the pocket.  The ball also had tons of hold too, which suprised me cuz it was left in box condition.

Now I am just wondering if the ball is burning up too early and has nothing on the backend.  So i am thinking about Polishing the ball up so it has more energy on the backend.

just chim in on how you like your Erase-it

Haven't owned an Erase-It for a while now...but when I did have the ball I had it polished.  Not totally knowing the oil pattern you tried to play the ball on I think your assumption of the ball bleeding off too much energy is correct.  Polish should help you out here...but the ball itself has a really aggressive drilling on it.  How is this drilling compared to your other equipment?

What goof said seems right, as far as it goes. Remember also that the Erase-it came dull (600 grit matte finish). If your cousin has used it for any amount of games, it has likely absorbed a bunch of oil over time. This can reduce a dull ball's reaction from a little to a lot. The Erase-it, out of the box, had a good amount of hook in most anyone's hand. So I suspect it needs both a bit of oil extraction and a decent resurfacing (take it down to 220 grit, then back up to its stock 600 rit matte finish). I'd try those before polishing it. Heck, even if you decide you like it better polished, these 2 procedures are highly recommended on any used dull ball.

My experience with erasers is this shiny length with about a 10 board break at the end. Now when the ball got gunky dirty not as clean it ripped out the building. If I slowed the ball down a little it went brooklin. So when it was dirty I was playing center arrow and shiny it was inbeetween 2nd and third. So if you want to get more hook dull will do that for you but just letting the ball get dirty will do the same. Sounds like a joke but try it it might work for you.

well i ended up throwing the ball into a polishing machine for 8minutes and it came out nice n shiny.

the league i bowl in tonight is a basic shot, very oily in from 15-15 and tapers off to to the gutter.

The ball polished needed dry to make a good hard turn on this condition, i left several flat 10s, or 8pins, and even try go get a bit deeper and left a 5pin on a pocket shot.

But i ended up playing 17 to 10 so it could get a nice turn into the pocket.

And as for most of my other bowling balls,  I normally have the pin either 4inches from pap or more.  I rarely go less than 4inches, because i have so many revs.

Most of the time, i put the Pin either above my ring finger or middle finger, or under them.
