Storm Lucid or Roto Grip Defiant Edge
« on: February 12, 2013, 09:07:23 AM »
I am trying to choose between the two. I currently have an anarchy and absolutely loved everything about this ball. I only purchase a ball once every two years And I am looking for something as similar to the anarchy as I can get.  I am a lefty that throws about 15-16 mph, tweener with a 215 average. I throw on the typical house shot. In looking at comparisons, it seems like the edge is the most comparable and the lucid may be a little stronger. I just wanted to get another opinion. Please let me know your thoughts.

thanks

I own both.  Love my Edge.  Lucid is much stronger.  Had to poish is to keep it within 3-5 boards of the edge.  I am tweener, 225 avg, about 17 at release with 14.5-15 mph at the pins and a rev rate about 325.  The Lucid starts earlier and continues through the pins.  Both are really good balls.  You can't go wrong with either one.
Good Luck.

To answer your question, I would have to say the defiant edge is the closest ball to the anarchy. The edge will be maybe a little stronger than your anarchy by rolling more so than a flip off the end of the pattern. However, I think the pearl counterpart to the sync will be the closest you will see to the anarchy. So if you wanna wait, the next pearl in the premier line will be better. But if you want something now, get the defiant edge. On the other hand, I think the lucid would be a better option if you are still going to throw your anarchy. It would compliment your anarchy quite well because it will be earlier and stronger. Just my .02 ¢.

The Defiant Soul is a great ball as well. Actually in spite of my previous post, I recommend it over the Lucid because it is much cleaner and a little less rolly. Honestly, I forgot about this ball because I know so much about these two. I would give you more insight. But I have only seen one bowler throw this ball live. Maybe someone who has one can tell you more.

I have it, much cleaner upfront than Lucid, great midlane read, nice "pop" but very controlled....I like it a lot....

Comparisons: Soul

Vs Deep Purple.......2-3 ft longer and more back end motion, great continuation, very close in strength...

Vs Nano.........Much smoother, 3-4 weaker, much more controllable...

All three of these balls handle oil great, but three very different motions, I would say the Soul would be the most versatile of them all...

I use the Nano very rarely, but when the condition calls for it, there is not anything better for me, I have scored great with it the few times I have been able to use it. The Deep Purple was the ball I started league nights with, scored incredibly well but it gets into a roll very quick, which for me made it go back to the bag just as quick. It was a single game a night ball for me.

I bought the Soul and have been very pleased and with better length than the Deep Purple I have been able to stay with it longer, the deeper in the oil I get the better it finishes. So much so that I am now selling my Deep Purple and I truly love that ball.

Used both on TAT. Edge rolls early and smooth 15x4x60, Sync 60x4x45 never quits. Both didn't care about carry.
Great combo. Only 300 rpms.
Finalist top 5 in division.

Get the Edge! If you are replacing your anarchy that is the one.  If you are looking for more overall motion the lucid would be your best bet.

I second the EDGE as well -- the Edge for me is more smooth - nice strong arch - and very controlable.

Have both but havent thrown the Edge enough to really say much.  However the Lucid is an incredible ball for low to medium rev guys who like to roll the ball.  The weight block gives it tremendous continuation for such an early rolling ball.  I averaged 230 for an 8 game qualifying with it on the 50 foot Paris pattern.  Ran away with a senior tournament on a 45 foot pattern.  The ball is actually a bit better after it polishes up to the lane a bit.
