Gravity Shift not a wood lane ball?
« on: March 11, 2008, 02:51:43 AM »
For those who have a gravity shift and possibly bowl on both wood and synthetic lanes do you find the gravity works and reacts better on the synthetics than on the wood lanes?  I do bowl on both surfaces and feel the gravity does not read the lane as well on wood lanes.  In fact I think it burns ups in the mids on the woods lanes and looses it's pop on the back end.  I can find my way to the pocket but it is weak 10 after weak 10.  Any input?

Yeah, wood is a higher friction surface, so you pretty much explained your problem for yourself there.  It burns up and doesn't have the energy to make the corner.

I guess I should have been more clear when I wrote "Any input?".  I know the wood lanes will create more friction.  I am not expecting to ball play exactly the same as it does when I throw it on the synthetics, but to just to be able to find something with it to which I can score good and that just has not happened as of yet.  I mean i have tweaked the cover like 3 times already and nothing works to my liking.

What I was meaning to convey was if anyone else had any experience in which the gravity does not seem to perform as well on wood as opposed to synthetics please provide your experience?

Sorry, but I seem to be 6-8 months behind the curve on having the latest stuff.  Otherwise I would compare it to everything I had on wood and synthetic.

You might not be able to find anything with it.  Balls aren't designed for high friction surfaces any more, especially the Gravity Shift.  And the reaction you're getting or not getting isn't specific to that ball.  About the best thing you can do is find the area of the lane with the most oil on it and play there.  Try to push it through the breakpoint.  Loft it a bit.  Come around the side more.  Do you have more forward roll or side roll?

My teammate has been using this ball with great success on wood lanes.  He is a high speed, high rev, high track bowler.  He uses quite a bit of loft to get the ball down the lane.

The ball is tremendously strong off the friction!

I use mine on both wood and synthetic and find for me it reacts similar on both. Very very strong at the breakpoint and never left a weak 7 pin I am left handed. Lots of ringing 7s but so far not any weak ones Probably the strongest pearl I have seen. I actually prefer mine on wood.

do you know the oil patterns are the same?  its obvious your bowling at two different houses' patterns and type of oil is most likely different.  ive used my attitude on both syns and wood with a similar reaction, granted wood lanes will usually provide for a faster reaction.  i dont understand what you are asking.  are you asking what you have your surface at for wood lanes.  obvious thats contingent on your style of play which you havnt told us about.  also i find many wood houses vary as most houses only have wood bc they never upgraded to syns making the old wood lanes quite old and unreliable.   give us more info!!

I have thrown mine on wood and synthetic lanes. I love it on both but the woods lanes I bowl on for league put down a lot of oil in the middle so mine doesn't burn out. I have had issues in other wood houses with it burning out so I just move a few board right. The other thing you could do (not sure if you have yet or not) would be to add more polish to it.

I just picked mine up today, and threw it on a fresh ths pattern...on wood...and this ball had no trouble with length, and even less turning the corner, i throw it 19MPH, 500+ revs, and was playing from 35 to 7-8. this thing turned so hard that i had to move that about 10 and 5 boards left of where i normally play...

When having trouble, just throw it harder!!!
