Oh No Domination *Updated*
« on: February 28, 2007, 07:21:19 AM »
So I got my Domination drilled up and had a chance to throw it on Monday.  I was dissapointed.  The ball wouldn't react throwing my normal shot, so I tried to get it out on the lane more, and it started to do what I thought it would.  However, after three strikes in a row, I just kept leaving flat 7's.  I moved, I adjusted my hand, I did everything I could think of.  I have been reading how this ball is a skid/flip monster, but it didn't flip for me at all.  I've seen people using the ball with less hand than me, and the ball hooks.  Mine didn't at all.

It gave me a controlled look, which I don't mind, but it wasn't a strong reaction at all.  If I didn't crush my mark, I was not hitting the hole, while everyone was spraying left, right, center and at least hitting the pocket.

How easily does this ball burn up?  I say this because any time I've used a heavy oil piece at this house, it just goes straight from burning up.  I've never had anything with a polished cover react like that though.  So I am hoping the ball was just burning up, and that I will be able to use it somewhere.

I don't really want to mess with the cover just yet, but I will if need be.  (takes the whole point of getting this ball out of play though)

The ball is drilled with the pin left of the ring finger, with the cg maybe 1 1/2" below the ring and the MB is about 2 1/2" to the left and maybe an inch below the thumb.  There is no x-hole at all.

Would there be any way to add an x-hole to get the ball to do something, or is this just a case of the ball losing all it's energy?

*EDIT

I used the ball tonight in my other league, and it did hook and made a decently strong move.  I guess there is more head oil.

I have seen this ball go down the lane many of times! This ball is usually pretty strong for just about everyone I see throwing it! I am not totally sure what the case is with yours. It doesn't sound like you have it drilled to hook a bunch like you are saying you wanted it to. Seems more like a label drill then anything and that is going to give you a controlled arcing motion in the ball. Not the skid flip I think you are looking for. Not sure if you told the ball driller this or not.. Have any pictures by any chance?

Here is the pic of the layout.  Sorry it's sideways, it's the only way I could get the pin, cg, and mb all in the frame lol.

is this one of the balls from BB.com? I got 2 of the dominations, as well as 2 passions. I love the reaction of the domination.

Yea it was one of the "Pro CG" balls.  I wanted to go get some practice with it today, but open bowling was at 9 and $3 a game.  I'm going to throw it in warmups on Friday and see what it does.

Also another thing I'm hoping is that since we bowled on the last pair on Monday, which always plays tighter for me, maybe it was just that.

I guess only time will tell.

I have the same problem with my Domination.  I have it drilled 4x4 with a 2 1/2 pin buffer.  With my pap it ended up coming out to about 4 1/4 x 4 1/2.  I practiced on a fresh house shot with a heavier volume of oil than most.  It didn't move at all.  My Thunderstruck Pearl moved about 11 boards more than my Domination.  I hit it with 1000 matte and it helped it out a bit.

I threw a 733 with it at 1000 matte but it still doesn't turn the corner, like yours.  From what i can see with it, mine revs up super early and it basically doesn't have anything left for the backend which is why it doesn't make a strong move.  I can throw it on a fresh pattern and it will hit like a truck but throw some carry down or a little bit of oil and it's in the bag and out comes either the Thunderstruck pearl or the Passion.  I suggest e-mailing Storm like I did and see what they can do.

The ball is burning up, pure and simple.

I love my Domination, I've got a 5.1/2" pin on it and the ball is so strong I have to put it away when they are dry. When the ball gets through the first 30 feet cleanly, it is the best ball I own, absolutely crushes the pins from all angles. When I have to force it through the front, its time to switch to the T-strucks.

When you get on more oil you are going to love this ball!

Hmmm, with the shifted CG on this ball, I can tell about a friend's Fear Factor which had a similar shift (though lower distance pin to CG). The ball was drilled strong, similar to this Domination (plus huge x-hole), but would not react consistently. Tried surface changes, releases etc., sometimes the ball would work pretty well, but most times simply not.

We asked a local pro shop about the ball, and he told us that he'd consider the ball a production blem, because the CG shift was so far out of line and one could not be sure how the ball would look like inside, even though it was legal.

End of story: ball was dumped, and this might probably be your ball's fate, too?

I'll get a chance to toss it around tonight in warmups and see what happens.  Never had a problem with any balls burning up at this house...so we'll see.
