Kinda like pot luck to what they send you. It can really cut down on the drillings. Not worth the few dollar savings IMO.

i recently ordered an X Blem Roto-Grip Mercury. the only thing wrong at all with it was the color-it had some almost forest green markings all around the pin. however, it had a normal pin length and specs, and rolls perfectly well. but Hogs is right-it is potluck. i just caught the luck side.

I think they fall into 3 categories

1)  Color - no affect whatsoever on reaction

2)  Very long pin (5+inches) - Nothing wrong, just need to get creative with drill pattern sometimes

3)  Low (under 2 oz) or high (over 5 oz) top weight - Same as number 2

It IS next year!

Try working with an 11.5-inch pin sometime. That's what I got when I bought a Paradigm off eBay.

Fortunately for me, my driller found a combination of layout and weight hole that both kept me legal and gave me a look I still haven't been able to duplicate with any other ball. It's in the bag every time I go to a tournament but it's not an every-shot ball.

It is potluck unless they'll tell you the specs beforehand.

I sort of want to buy one just for kicks and see what I get.  The bowling ball lottery!

Those super-long pins aren't necessarily problematic.  I'd say it's better to get an 11" pin than a 6" pin, as you can always flip the ball upside down with the 11" pin and have a 2.5" anti-pin.

I know you like your Paradigm as it's drilled, but I think you got lucky.

I just got a Secret Agent X-Comp blem for $30.00 + ship from bowlingball.com. The blem turned out to be the pin is not completely round but is distorted on one edge.Specs were 2.5 top and 2.5 pin. A steal in my opinion.

It's all about the X
