Reign of Fire or Invasion
« on: January 13, 2010, 02:57:44 PM »
Ok, after seeing a video of some testers throwing the Invasion, I am kinda torn as to which ball to get?  I just had the Reign drilled up and OMG the ball is unreal...  Which made me tell my Pro-shop driller to have a Reign of Fire set a side for me when he gets one...

But now I am leaning towards the Invasion..  IDK,,, generally i dont like getting two of the same ball... I cuz the ROF is basically the Reign in a solid form...

While the Invasion is totally different..

I plan on leaving the ROF in OOB condition and use it for heavier oil patterns..  And same with the Invasion...

And basically doing a pin right over the ring finger and CG out at 60 Degree's just like my Reign, except the pin is under the ring finger.

I plan on getting both, and taking the ROF to 4000 abralon, and leaving the Invasion at 4000 OOB finish.  This will give me the Invasion for really heavy/longer patterns, and the ROF as a smoother reacting benchmark piece, and also as a step down from the Invasion.  I''m sure you could not go wrong with either at their respective box finishes for heavier volumes of oil (ROF @ 1000, Invasion at 4000).  I have heard they both are about the same in overall hook at OOB finish, but at the same surface, the Invasion will be stronger overall. My guess is the ROF will be one of the hottest pieces in the near future, especially on the tougher sport/PBA conditions, due to its cover/core combo, and a cover which bodes well to surface changes.  Just my thoughts.

Yea, I told my pro-shop guy to just order me the Reign of Fire..  and I'll probably look at the Invasion as a next season ball lol, since i have my Virtual Gravity...

But I do plan on leaving the ball in OOB condition..  As a good counter part when my Reign just isnt enough..

With the pin down and the solid, 1000 grit cover, I'm guessing you'll see nice separation in the looks that the ROF and Reign will give you. Is the Reign at OOB finish?

I did a Storm open house today, and every ball had the pin above the bridge and the cg or mb kicked out to the right of the thumbhole. For me the Reign of Fire was about 6 boards stronger than the Invasion. The Invasion is nice, but it was the same as my 4000 cell which has well over 100 games on it. The Reign of Fire is incredible off of the spot, but I will give the Invasion props for the continuation that it has through the pins. It doesn't hook even remotely as much as I expected, but the way it revs up and drives through the pins would make me at least think about putting it in the bag. Almost looked like a LevRG on the lanes.

Disclaimer though, I am a high speed/high rev player, so asymmetrical balls are pretty much useless for me in terms of hooking a lot. For my wife the Invasion was incredibly stronger than the Reign of Fire, but she's a low rev/medium speed player.

Spartan,

I have my Reign left OOB, with pin under the ring finger and CG out @ 60degree's..  Like the Tony Ruocco video.

I planned on drilling up the Reign of Fire, with pin right above the ring finger and the CG out at the same place.    Or I was thinking of just drilling it the same with the pin down.
