Paradign--Is this a bad layout??
« on: November 15, 2007, 02:09:44 PM »
I drilled my Paradign with the pin under bridge, and placed the cg beside the thumb, with the RAD to the right 60 degrees, hoping that I would get a ball easy to control that would make it throuth the heads clean and flip on the backend. That is basically what I got.

One of the storm "experts" at our lanes says that this is a bad layout for the ball and that the cg should not be beside the thumb. Instead, he says it should be kicked out to the right and the pin above the ring finger.

Is the layout I chose really that bad?

If it works for you, how could it be bad?  I've heard many people look at my layouts and say that's not the way it should be....who's to judge.  If the ball is legal..and it works for you...who cares.

And he said this not knowing  what your PAP or anything else about your delivery? I find that very ... unusual.

Yes. I told him my PAP and what I was trying to acheive and he told me that the layout was horrible, and that I should call the storm people and ask them. He said my PAP did not matter. He has been bowling for 20 years and uses only storm equipment. His avg is 187 in this house which is old wood and sometimes a really tough shot, depending on how the oil machine is working.  He actually has 3 Paradigns.

My average is 170. I took the ball and beat him the first game 204,176. He won the second and third games 212,196 and 235,179.

I am pleased with the ball. It is easy to control and has excellent carry. Another friend that was bowling with us was using a Black Widow Pearl, and the Paradign hit and carried much better than the BWP. In fact, after bowling beside the BWP, I took it off of my list of balls that I want to try.

Thanks for the input.  Good Bowling.

You said yourself that you are pleased so far.  It shouldn't matter what he says. I have to agree w/what everyone has posted so far.  Tell this to the "expert" at your lanes.  Also, you could tell him "there is more than 1 way to skin a cat".  Good luck w/your "Paradigm" (M on the end not N)

You said you wanted a ball that would be easy to control, that would make it through the heads and flip on the backend.  And that is what you got.  Also you like the ball.

How can that be a bad layout?

I have a Paradigm with the pin below the fingers.  Initially it was drilled with the pin above the fingers, but I had too much over/under.  I plugged and redrilled it with the pin below the fingers.  It works for me.  However that might not work for somebody else.

A layout is not necessarily bad or good.  It depends on the bowler, the bowler's PAP, the conditions, the ball movement the bowler is looking for and lots of other variables.

ccrider-
The CG is not the driving factor for reaction in a ball with a "mass bias" marking, in the case of this ball, it's marked "RAD"

The reaction is tuned by pin placement and the placement of the RAD. Check out this website as the guy talks about the significance of the CG.

If your happy with the reaction, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

As you say he has been bowling for 20 years, that really doesn't make him a coach. Tell him thanks for the advice, but you are happy and be done with him

The guy that told you that is an idiot.

First off the CG is not going to matter because it's an asymmetrical ball.  The CG is only going to matter for static purposes.

Where you have your pin is based on your pap so for him to say it should be over your ring shows he has no clue what he's talking about.

This is what I was thinking when I chose this layout.
