Likes: Track's newest release in the Mid Performance line, the 503T, fills a gap that was present throughout the entire lineup of Track bowling balls, the lack of a true "benchmark" ball. Well, this is most certainly it, Track modified the cover from the 716T by reducing the amount of built in traction in the coverstock allowing the ball to handle any type of medium oil condition...the core inside the ball is the Packman core, same as in the 503C.
I am incredibly impressed by this ball and its ability to read the lane and help me determine what the lanes will be able to give me throughout the night. In speaking with customers at my shop the highest bit of praise I can give this ball is that it's a Gamebreaker (Ebonite's version of a benchmark ball, and one of the best balls released within the past 10 years in my opinion) with an asymmetric core...this is most certainly high praise!!
On my 503T I went with a 75 x 3 7/8 x 75 layout and kept the box finish on the ball; this layout places the pin directly under my ring finger and keeps the MB near the thumb to promote a stronger motion at the back part of the lane. I've been able to use this ball on a very wide variety of lane conditions from medium-heavy oil all the way down to medium-light oil (to steal a phrase from Chris Barnes, this has become my 80% ball, usable on 80% of the lane conditions that I see)
Right off the press with this ball I had 1040 for four games on a moderately difficult version of the USBC OC pattern during a summer doubles league this year, this ball gave me enough traction in the front part of the lane so it didn't skid too much through the heavier volume of oil, but still retained enough energy to make a strong enough move on the backend and drive through the pins which helped minimize deflection
Dislikes: As of yet I haven't found any dislikes with this ball, I have drilled a second 503T by putting the pin way up over the bridge and drilling the thumb through the MB...I'm still in the testing phase with this ball and will have a review coming shortly
