BALL REACTION
Length: Clears heads nicely. Wants to rev up fairly early.
Back End: Starts continues, then moves through the back. Not uncontrollable, but makes aggressive move throughout start of motion.
Overall Hook: Moderately-aggressive
Midlane Read: Reads midlane, as advertised. Medium total differential shows itself. You can still tell it's an asymmetrical ball when ball reads midlane, and then turns over a little more in the end.
Breakpoint Shape: Strong arc plus a little more flip in the backend, nothing excessive for most synthetic surfaces.
COMMENTS
Likes: It does as it is advertised. It wants to get going a bit early, but doesn't go too sideways in the back. It allows me to be aggressive with my release without wanting to open the angles up too early.
Dislikes: Shell is clearly a little "too clean" out of box. Had to freshen it up a bit for my favored style of lane play.
Observations:
Like many EBI shells, it seems like it wants to soak up oil fairly quickly, therefore, ball maintenance and saving it from use on typical practices and non-competitive situations will be important. It is clear that the ball is a pretty aggressive, but not a super-soaker, either.
Track 811CT will provide a good look when I want to be aggressive upon seeing carrydown transitions shortly after the fresh, without having to use a ball that has a big friction and flare factor, which can spell out disaster for getting in too deep and ruining the shim too early. I plan on drilling another one of these for a cleaner reaction and to stay right of the headpin for a longer period of time, but still allowing me to be aggressive with my ball speed and release.
