Hey Guys, Need Some Advice!
« on: January 03, 2006, 05:41:50 AM »
Currently, for my oil ball, I have the Apex Obsession. Pin is about 4 1/2" from my PAP, below the ring finger. 1 1/2" above the midline. CG is about 3 1/2" from the PAP. And the MB is 4 1/2. My PAP is approximately 4" over and 1" down.

I bought the Apex to control over under and it does a fabulous job of that. I havne't had problems with that since I've gotten it. However, since it's drilled really strong, it uses a lot of energy up front and not on the backend. And when the lanes start drying out after a couple games, moving deeper is not an option with this ball. Just doesn't have the energy to turn hard enough as it's burning off its energy too fast.

Normally I would switch to my Absolute Inferno, being a little weaker, but on wooden lanes I just can't get this ball to wiggle. I made a post about this a while ago where weaker balls hook more and the stronger balls hook more than the Absolute so I can't really use it on wooden lanes which is odd. At any rate, I haven't got a ball to fit under the Apex. I want something pretty strong but that gets down the lane better and has a stronger breakpoint.

I was considering the Robo-Rule but that may be too strong for what I am looking at. How about the Delta 1? I'm looking to try another assymetrical ball. What do you guys think? Additional info is in my profile.

Ryan,

I believe the Rule Delta 1 would fit in there wonderfully! I agree with you on how the Robo-Rule would fit...I'm afraid from what you are describing it would do the same thing your Obsession is doing...the Rule Delta 1 is one of the best dull asymmetrical bowling balls I've ever had in my arsenal ever! However, I even think to some degree that the Delta 1 may become even stronger than your Obesession. It all depends on the layout especially with asymmetrical equipment! Hopefully Rick, Carl, and Clint can post their input on this case as well, but you got my backing on getting you a Rule Delta 1! God Bless you Ryan and let us know what you decide buddy!

That's what I love about the Track forum. You guys are all so helpful and kind. It's more than I can say for the other forums. Basically, I just want something longer and stronger than the Apex. No doubt the Delta will probably double the boards covered in the backend by the Apex and that's quite fine as long as it gets down the lane a bit easier.

Anyway, thanks for your reply Michael.

Ryan,

I believe if you pick up one of the Delta 1's and you drill it strong, a tad bit of delay reaction or polish may help smooth out the reaction, but if you get this ball drilled up, throw it before altering and see what you think, then if you think it is too strong and not what you want, you can always alter the surface to fit it in your game! God Bless you Ryan and let us know buddy!

Kingpin,

I agree with the Delta 1, but you may end up having to adjust the surface. It comes pretty dull which will also cause the same thing you are seeing out of the Obsession.

In your case from the sounds of what you want...if you have to adjust the surface I would suspect sanding to a higher grit would be better than polishing.

Carl

I would honestly suggest something around a 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 drill. It will make it strong enough to be able to handle more oil than the Absolute and be something that you do not have in your bag, in my opinion.

kingpin,

If you are looking for a bit more recovery.....I would go with the pin 3 3/4- 4 inches from PAP and the MB 3 1/2- 3 3/4 from PAP. Keep the pin in a lower position 1 1/2- 1 3/4 above your midline. The Delta will roll early, but you will be amazed at the recovery it has in the backend of the lane.
