Aresenal Question
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:05:39 PM »
Ok guys, here is what I have:
GP2
Freak-A-Zoid
Rule (Highly Polished)

On the way:
Desert Heat
Xception

Ok, I know the Desert heat will be my dry lane ball, but my question is where will the Xception fit?  I'm thinking it will be similar to the FAZ but a totally different (skid/flip) reaction, at least that is what I'm hoping for.  Am I correct in my thinking?  Or will it be under my FAZ?  If it is under, should I dull my Rule back down and use it between the FAZ and GP2?

Wylie,

For me the Xception would go above the Desert but below the FAZ. It will give you a skid flip reaction but the Xception is definitely a med to med/light ball. The FAZ is a med ball, maybe a bit more.

As for the Rule, I would dull it up a bit and put it in between the GP2 and the FAZ.

Kyle,

The Xception "can" hook more than the Freakazoid if the backends are strong enough. If you are going to be using them on a longer pattern or a pattern on the heavier side of mediums the Freakazoid is going to pick up its roll sooner and perform better in oil.
AND....if you see it under the Freakazoid, definately dull down the Rule a bit so give you a bit of coverage between the Freakazoid and GP2.

Ok, thanks guys.  Basically, it sounds like it could go either way depending on my style and lane conditions.  I guess the best thing I will be able to do is just try it out and see where it fits.  I think this should give a good solid arsenal though.  Does it seem pretty complete to everyone?

Ok, the more I have thought about this the more I think this is how it will go:

GP2 - Heavy Oil
Rule (600 ?)- Med. heavy - control drill
Freak-A-Zoid - Med - early controlled roll
Xception - Med - Skid/Flip
Desert Heat - Light/Dry (spares?)

Sound like a winning combo?  Does 600 sound right for the rule, or is it to low?  I guess I won't know for sure until I get the Xception drilled and get to throw it, but I think this will make the most sense.

Any more suggestions are always welcomed.

Looks good Wylie, I've always brought my Rule back with the burgundy pad and Clean and Dull.  It looks pretty dull but will burn off in about a game or so and the ball creates great friction and reaction again.  Hope this helps...

As a person who always sees a lot of light oil, I'd want at least one ball between the Xception and the Desert Heat. A CrunchTime or a Solutions Ex or something of that nature. If you have low revs or you hardly see light oil, then you can get away without this other ball. Personally I'd put 2 balls between them. (not a joke, just irony.)

Thanks for the advice Rick.  Burgundy is 1000, right?  My center just got a Haus machine last spring, so I am still figuring it out.

LOL Charlest...
I don't see a ton of light oil, combined with the fact that I have become ver good at killing the revs enough that I should be fine on that end.  I'm hoping the Xception will give me the ability to play inside a lot more on med-light also.  We'll see, I may end up adding 1 more in there, just not until closer to tournament time.

Burgundy or Maroon Scotch-Brite nylon pad is 320 - 400 grit. Rick was probably using light hand application. Green pad is roughly 600 grit; Light Grey is approx 800 grit; Blue Nylon pad is approx 1000 grit. The Light Grey and Blue pads usually need a spinner and some firm, not hard  pressure. The Maroon and Green pads are good for light touch-ups by hand.
