Initial Impression of Track 607A SE

After considering a 718A vs. a 607A SE.  I chose the 607A SE in that I thought of flatter conditions other than house conditions.  It might be a little more controllable.  I think I chose the right ball. 
 
The 607A SE is laid out pin down 55* x 4 1/8" x 65* and x hole at P2.  Pic below.  My stats. are in my profile.  I have taken the cover to a slight hand scuff with a 4000 abralon pad.  It just broke the shine slightly but still gives good length and reads the mid lane and backend without the over reaction and carries well.
 
I have used it twice now and frankly if I had not shot big games in the initial game of both sets with a Hammer Jigsaw Trap 246 on Wed and 278 Thurs....I should have gone to the 607 A earlier in the 2nd game where I lost good ball reaction in the 2nd game.  Both times the 3rd game with the 607A I shot large games moving in to 14 to 16 at arrows to a break point of 8-10.  
 
What I think some players that struggle with the 607A is that they have put a pin up drilling on a strong skid-flip type ball and the ball is going to long and pinging 10's or they just aren't layout/cover matched.  The pin down dual angle layout/slight cover scuff for me still gets good length and hard backend but it's not uncontrollable.  Carry is fantastic.  I have found a strong enough ball for good carry under my stronger fresh balls.  Pin down 4" Cell, pin even 4" 920T and pin up 5" Hammer Trap.

Theres a large group of people in my area with the 607A SE and they just wreck the house shots with it. The ball is a monster provided there is some early friction or not a ton of oil.  It doesn't seem that overunder but it could just be good layout matchups with people or the fact that almost everything if thrown well looks good on the house shots.

I would have done that from the start OOB is way too skid flippy off the friction.  See my original post and what I  did with surface.

Scott I want to congratulate you. I read your post and not many guys make me smile when I read their posts on here. You Really get IT! You understand that surface prep effects ball motion and that tweaking a shined ball is OK with surface to break the shine. We do alot of Demo Days and we preach that the balls OOB finish is not the end just a starting point and that all balls are designed to be custom fit to the customer, even the balls surface!
 
This is not sarcasm at all. Its great that some people understand this.
Also great thinking behind the layout also using the pin down on a ball that is by nature long and flippy.
I would imagine this piece is quite controllable but still skid/flip.
 
Again Congrats and keep bowling well.

Billy, you and Scotts are correct in what you say about adjusting the surface. I had a similar initial experience with  an Ebonite Game On as you and Scotts on the 607A. The Game On skidded thru the break point and when it did finally turn, it had nothing on the back end.

 

The ball's surface was super shiney so I buffed a bit of the shine off (not all but a wee bit) with a gray Scotch Brite pad and the ball began working better for me. After a couple of weeks like that, I began thinking about how Brunswick used to do all shiney surfaces with 400 grit sanding and polish, so I then sanded  it to 500 grit with an Abralon Pad and polished back with Ebonite Polish and the ball now works for the conditions I bought it for.

 

I almost bought the 607A and not the Game On (my pro shop guy didn't know much about the 607A nor Game On, but I had a couple of knowledgeable recommend the Game On) and still wonder even today if I should have bought the 607A.

+1 on the surface prep, I think its the key for this ball in particular. I like mine at 2000-4000 with no polish, also have had success at 1000 with Storm's Reacta-Shine. I also have a friend who is on Track staff and swears by 1000 grit abralon pad with polish directly on the pad during application.

 

Ive had mine for almost a year now, and I still cant say enough about how good this ball in on the THS. Dont give up on the surface.

With respect to Track balls, if you watch the new TRACK videos Fig specifically reinforces in the videos that you can adjust the surface to fit your game and more importantly the volume/surface you are bowling on to match your speed and rev rate. I hate to sound like a broken record but a Good Pro Shop will help you with these tweaks to get you the best performance out of your new ball.
