Not sure if this has been released yet, but considering I'm pretty plugged into the industry and I hadn't heard this golden nugget until tonight I thought I would share the information to the other Track fiends.

From what I was told, Track finally has a really good bowler to rep their brand on the Exempt Tour: Michael Fagan.

Personally, I think the Track equipment will compliment what he does quite well and it should be really interesting to see how he does next season.

I think Ronnie Russell was a free agent last year so he could throw anything he wants. Like I said they can throw anything they want during the week but when it comes to the show they have to throw the brand they are signed too. You said Tommy Jones was using a bedlem during the US Open, he was using a Mission on the show with a mediocre reaction.

Seems to me that fault can lie with both parties on this one. From ebonites side, why would you limit them om tv, as previously said, if you let them throw anything they want all week under your label. Seems odd. At the same time, if your a pro bowler and know good and well that you can only use brand x on the show if you make it, why use brands y and z at all? Why not stick with the ones you can use and make them work for you instead of finding the ball that works anbd throwing it when all of your success that week ultimately means nothing. I race dirt track stock cars, and that would be like them telling me I can use a 4 barrel carb during practice and heat races but once we go out for the main I have to use a 2 barrel carb. Why would I even bother tuning to a 4 barrel at all if I know I can't use it in the long run?

Just my 2 cents!

From a pro's perspective you would want to be able to use anything you can to get to the show. How many times have you seen someone lead a tournament by a ton only to lose on TV. In a one game match anything can go wrong even if it was with balls you used all week. So the first step for anyone regardless of what brand you are throwing is to get to the show.

Obviously the Touring guys are taking advantage of the rules to their greatest advantage.

Back in the early 90's when there were big incetives I watched bowlers use a particular companies equipment all week to make the show then use whatever ball had the largest incetives that week on the show and wore that Companies shirt and used their ball to win the tournament or just gurantee some extra cash in their pocket regardless of their finish.

Also this allowance by Ebonite was done I heard to combat the fact that Storm/roto guys were allowed to do this earlier so ebonite Adapted. Kudos to them for adjusting the rules to benefit their players.

Incentives help a bowler overcome mediocre prize funds.

Agree 100%. The toughest part by far is to make the show. Anything can happen in a 1 game match on TV, more like a crap shoot.

To the guy who talked about his race car. That doesn't apply in your example. Your talking about practice and you can't earn much there and then change cars. It would more be like in NASCAR if you used the same car all day and then were in 2nd for a green white checker and had to change cars. Your still gonna have a great race based on your position for the green white checker but you still make a change. A PBA bowler needs to make a show however possible and then everything changes. Many times bowlers drill a ball specifically for the show since lane breakdown will be quicker and a little different.

And yes Ebonite International did this in response to Storm/Roto it is believed. But Storm and Roto allow whatever on the shows obviously. So this must have been Ebonites small clause in their response. Yea Fagan and Scroggy signed with Ebo International last year so they could throw it all even on the shows. Fagan must have been offered more to sign with Track exclusively since he could already throw any under the umbrella even on the show. Regardless, this is great for Track. Mike is an amazing bowler with a beyond bright future ahead with many shows and many titles I believe.

I don't fault the bowlers for trying to make a better living. From a mental standpoint, while the extra cash has to be helpful, I have to belive that changing balls once you get to the show is a major impediment. Again, from the player's perspective, it may be a necessary evil, to make ends meet.

But the company can't justify this requirement.

Remember, Scroggs, Mike Wolfe and Fagan were signed to the "umbrella" deals, meaning that they had no particular brand to represent on TV.  All other staff guys had to represent the brand they were signed to.  Once Detroit happened (WSOB), Ky. response to the Storm guys was as mentioned above.  They turned all staff guys loose on all 4 brands.  A lot of Ky, loyal guys threw Track a ton during the week, for each event.  Some guys matched up better with brands than others, or particular balls matched up well with everyone (i.e. Missions, Pure Swings, 715's and 505's).  TV incentives still matter though.  How would it look for Chad Murphy and C300 if Barnes is on TV throwing a Mission, for example?  That's why the 'cornerstones - (Barney, TJ, Couch, Billy O, Mitch) had to throw what they represent.  PA was still throwing Vibes...

Michael will match up well with Track, good luck to him!

In responce to the guys matching to other equipment. Barns matched up well with the 715A. In extra frame you were able to watch him use it and throw 860+ in match play.
