I just received a 5.0 in a trade through dstanek.  The ball is in perfect shape with the original 1000 grit oob finish.  The pin above and right of ring with cg and mass bias stacked and weighthole on the pap.  This is a strong drilling and a strong ball.  So I expected a strong reaction tonight and I got nothing.  It was outhooked by the rsx and rsp by a long shot.  It seemed like it never turned the corner...I just hit it with a 600 grit wet sand and followed it up with track clean and dull.  I hope I see something a little better tomorrow night.  Anyone else run into this?

What cover is the RSX? It could be possible that the 5.0, which has a STRONG core and particle in the cover, combined with a STRONG drill is just too strong for the lanes you were on, and dulling it will only make it worse. More oil is what you need as it sounds like the ball is bleeding energy too early...

The info thus far is too vague for me to try to guess what the situation is with lack of hook. Let us know what the ball does with the 600 grit.

PS- Generally weightholes on PAP tends to tame down a ball's reaction off of the breakpoint.

I don't think it needs more oil.  It was on synthetics with a 38' house shot.  It slid through the heads well and didn't read the mids at all.  I really think the cover change will be a step in the right direction.  I will post and let you know.  The cover of the RSX is 1500 polished solid reactive.  I thought for sure that the 5.0 would read better on that shot than the rsx.  But slight cover changes can make a big difference.

I listed the drill pattern for the 5.0 in the original message and the rsx has the pin above bridge and between the fingers with the cg directly below in the palm with no weighthole.

Do you know your PAP as well as the pin/mb distance on the 5.0?

What is the best way to measure my pap.  I know it is on the opposite side of ball as the center of your track, but i'm not sure how to measure it.

While that's not necessarily a weak drilling, a pin under w/ MB on VAL would be stronger. It would allow it to roll up a bit sooner and still have a big backend. Mine is drilled that way (pin under bridge). When I first threw it, the backend was so HUGE I was kinda worried I could never use the ball!! I put a xhole on PAP to tame it down a tad and she's beautiful!
