A few weeks later...
« on: August 11, 2005, 07:53:07 AM »
Just wanted to provide an update on the four Track balls I had drilled a couple of weeks ago, in case anyone was curious how they turned out.  I'll edit this post with specific weight hole locations later tonight.

Here's a link to my previous thread-  http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=92017&ForumID=14&CategoryID=2

Freak-a-Zoid:  This has been my favorite ball so far.  I added a weighthole slightly beyond and below my PAP...ball has been left in box finish.  It likes to get into an early roll and handles more oil than my Arsenal Angular.  The breakpoint is generally pretty smooth, but it does sharpen on extreme wet-dry situations.  Altogether, very controllable, and the carry is excellent.

Arsenal Angular:  There is a small punchmark just below the pin on this ball, and my driller and I assumed that this must be the real CG location, instead of the one inside of the Track label.  Instead of sending it back (after all, it WAS partially our fault for not weighing the ball before drilling), we decided to try a weighthole about 3-3.5" above my PAP on my VAL.  It looks to be about 1.5" or so above a horizontal line from my fingers.  The hole was pitched away from my PAP approximately 1.5"-2" as well.  I don't flare over this hole.  Ball was left in box finish.

It's hard to describe what this ball does at the breakpoint.  It gets through the heads with ease, and then it does a sort of gliding motion towards the pocket.  It's like an arcing motion, and then it backs off...almost like an extended hook-set motion, I guess.  It's a very controllable motion for me, and it carries very well on the right conditions.  I think it might be a little more condition-specific than the FAZ, but it does seem to eat up THS's and 38-40' patterns.  It looks like a great weapon for playing straight down the gutter.

Rule GP2:  I added a balance hole just beyond my PAP.  I've been very pleased with this ball.  Compared to my first GP2, the breakpoint is not as angular, but it's definitely earlier.  The carry is just as good as the first one, which is excellent, and I think I'll have a lot of success with this ball in the future, though it didn't work quite as well as I thought it might the first tourney I bowled with it...I'll chalk that up to the bowler and not the ball

Heat:  I added a balance hole on my VAL about 2" above my PAP.  I'm not really sure what I have with this ball yet...I haven't thrown it a whole lot.  We have a regional coming up with a 36' pattern after this weekend, so I will be throwing it more then.  I'll probably try a coat of Delayed Reaction on it, as it does have a strong and slightly earlier breakpoint than I was expecting.

Thanks to everyone that offered their advice on my equipment, and to all that post in this forum!  I do try to keep up with all of the information that's passed around.

Chitown, I'll be sure to keep you posted on the Heat.  I'll probably "get serious" with it late Sunday or Monday night, after this weekend's event is over.

Clint, thanks man!  If not Labor Day, I hope to meet up with you soon!
