Title: 5.0 resurface
Post by: fabes on February 13, 2006, 11:46:24 AM
I need to get some scratches out of the track of my 5.0. What would be the process to get them out and then get it back to box surface? I was thinking sanding with 400 grit and then and then finishing with 1000 and some polish. Please let me know what is best. Do not do much refinishing, usually do not have stuff that long.

fabes,

The 5.0's surface is very difficult to duplicate. The closest I have come to doing so and matching reaction at every point of the lane is 800 grit with Magic Shine over the surface.

Hey fabes,

I agree with EX.  The 5.0 was a little tough, I actually put mine at a higher grit (500) before polishing to ensure a little more grab in the mids.  Hope this helps some...

Thanks guys. Like I say I have very little experience in this area. I believe the specs for the 5.0 says 1000 grit compound finish. Do you use a grit like 200-400 for removing scratches, and then go with the 800-1000 for the finish? Then do you apply the polish? Shows my ignorance about this.

Thanks for any help you might give.

Hey fabes,

It depends on how deep the scratches are.  Typical or normal track marks should be able to come out with 150 and then fine to desired grit from there.
