GP2
« on: July 17, 2005, 10:43:06 PM »
This is my first post on here, i'm getting a GP2. Wanted a heavier oil ball & after looking thru all the write ups elected to go for the GP2.I have a UI & AI which i like a lot for certain conditions. As i'm a stroker/tweener and not a lot of hand thought the GP2 would be an ideal ball for the odd time i get on a condition where the others dont quite get up to the pocket, heavier oil and carrydown. Just had my AI done with pin below ring finger for earlier roll works great. Do you think i should have the GP2 done the same way. Thanks guys.

I am an advocate (one of the few) for drilling balls the same way. If you put a general drill on multiple balls, that gives you an easy step down/up from one ball to another, as you should see basically the same motion, but the difference in covers and cores will make up the difference. However, if you truly want the GP2 for heavy oil, then by all means, you can drill it strong as well, and make it for SUPER HEAVY oil, which is what the ball was meant for.

Supermo,

I wouldn't drill it the same. I would place the pin 3 1/2- 3 3/4 from PAP. This would definately give you the separation that it sounds like you want. Don't forget, with the GP2 you also have MB placement that is very important. If you really want it for the floods, then place the MB accordingly. The best position would on or near your VAL since you are a stroker/tweener with medium speed.

Goodluck!!

Hey Super,(Welcome to the Track forum)

The GP2 will work very nicely on the heavier conditions you describe.  I also recommend to keep the pin maybe a touch further right of your ring finger but make sure the little weight block logo (mass bias) is placed near to on your val (like Ex states) to help the ball get into a sooner roll.

i have a wmb and a roto grip oracle that i purchased for heavy oil i was considering buying a new total shock and awe,but i keep reading more and more about the gp2 and it seems that this ball is the creme of the crop, is there any one that can give a good opinion of this ball in relation to what i have. When you go to the ball comparison site the wmb and gp2 fall in the same category, but i am really unimpressed with the wmb for heavy oil it is a good ball, but not in OIL,and I am really frustrated with buying balls and not having them perform as advertised my heavy oil ball list goes like this ,track phenom unleashed, oracle ,wmb, ebonite addiction and none have delivered what i was expecting.

toomanytenpins,

The GP2 is far stronger than every ball you listed. I have mentioned in the past that I have a buddy I drilled a GP2 for and it was drilled identical to his WMB................the GP2 was easily 7-8 boards stronger. Many people found this hard to believe, but it is the truth. You will not be disappointed.

Let us know more about your style and game and we can help you with a layout.

It is a shot that is probably the heaviest "house" pattern I have thrown on. Many of the folks here have seen videos of me throwing and I usually play pretty deep. I am not a cranker, but not quite a tweener either. I have to play straight on this shot.

My buddy (username Toddcj7 for ballreviews), had ot stand around 16 with his WMB and was able to get 7 boards(sometimes more) left with his feet and play more in the oil with his GP2. Maybe he will chime in and comment.

One of, if not THE most important thing in bowling/scoring is finding an area to play and not have to be as precise. Todd was throwing the WMB and when I got my GP2 one night he wanted to try it so he did. He was able to move left and have more area on the lane. He used mine for a week or 2 until he could get the cash to buy the GP2.....his average in Feb when he bought it.....185....he finished out the season with 193. (DO NOT COMMENT TO ME ABOUT SCORING AND EQUIPMENT....I ALREADY KNOW). But the GP2 gave him a better opportunity to score on that condition than an identically drilled WMB.
