Alot of the polish stuff does get hit with alot of polish. Alot of this is done with almost all the companys. This is becasue as you polish one ball the polishing machine doesnt self clean so the polish keeps building ball after ball and ect. This means that ball number 50 of a run is hit with a higher coat then ball number 1 and so on. This is why shops should gently hit the polished equipment with at least a white scotch brite pad to pull off some of the polish and let the cover see a little more friction. I do this for myself as well as all my customers. I normaly dont tell them so they dont think the ball is not oob.
Now with most balls 4000 abralon with polish is just not enough surface to cut through oil and carry down. Try 4000 abralon straight first. If that is good but the ball doesnt turn hard enough because of the dull surface take it to 2000 and then hit it with a light coat of polish. Use what ever polish you like that you find gives you the strongest responce to the friction. For me it is power house Magic shine. Dont be worried about altering your covers. Just be sure that when you do to get a real finish of the grit you want. always take the cover 1 step down further and then back. So if you want a 2000 finish hit the ball with 1000 first then go back over with 2000. You dont want to do a full resurface job because there is no need but you want to make sure you completly remove the OOB finish prep before you apply your finish. Ill let you guys know, for me a higher rev guy my favorite surface to get the ball down lane and really flip is 1000 abralon with a good coat of magic shine. When I want a ball to get down lane and turn dead nuts left on THS, this is my finish. If I want more control off the spot I use 4000 abralon, OR I use 1000 abralon with some kind of compound finish like old Clean N Sheen or Clean N Smooth. I still love those finishes on our products. Give good lenth but consistant midlane and continuation.
